When using the x-jet, what is the best bucket to use for chems/detergent? Also , what size hose & how long should it be?

I agree about the proportioners. But at this point, I am sick of lugging 15gal buckets and a hand truck everywhere. Combine that with the fact that you can now buy proportioners in singles (as opposed to an assortment) and it's not that bad a deal. Order 20, and know you'll lose some.

Also, I am considering having a proportioner machined as a permanent insert to the hose barb. I really only use one, so that would work our well.

You could have a needle valve made unless they already exist to fit inline in your hose. They used to use these on old outboard motors (before carbeurators) to proportion the fuel/air mixture. You may could calibrate a dial to the draw ratio for a given machine flow rate. That way you can have an "infinite" range of proportioners with one device. make it from stainless steel so it won't corrode. If you want to do the leg work on patenting something like this, I have access to a 3d modeling program intended to design such things as well as a CFD (computational fluid dynamics) package that will calculate the pressure drop and show the flow characteristics through the design. I'll come up with the design, you find the company to make it and the attorney to file the patent work, and we both buy brand new Harleys!

I run it open and proportioned in various ratios depending on circumstances. Proportioners are lost most often when pulling off the hose from the xjet to change (or remove) proportioners). That creates a vacuum which pops out the proportioner and sends it flying....
