What causes a burst valve, to..... well burst?

Recommended Posts

Burst valve started leaking the other day. I replaced it, and now something els is leaking, either reed switch or flow I'm not sure. Do these things normally go out? Or something worse?

Burst valves usually burst from a pressure spike (but its not a leak, its a heavy pressure stream of water). I've had them freeze and burst as well. All they are is a brass cylinder a spring and a teflon disc. If it's leaking, try tightening it with an Allen wrench. If your flow switch is leaking as well, it probably needs tightening. Remember to check ALL fittings and connections at least monthly, stuff shakes loose in transit.....

Yes, replace it. Once it is activated, it's been compromised. These are typical wear parts. You may need to adjust your unloader, because that should relieve pressure before it gets high enough to activate the pressure relief..
