sprayer dave 14 Report post Posted November 19, 2010 I am thinking about making shutters out of old deck boards, clean them up and stain them. Has anyone here done this ? Do you think they would be too heavy ? Any input would be helpful. Thanks, Dave
0 sprayer dave 14 Report post Posted November 19, 2010 Sorry guys, I am still trying to figure out how to do the signature thing.
0 Adrian 155 Report post Posted November 19, 2010 Depends on what you are anchoring them to, and what type of anchors. Nothing in the world wrong with recycling building materials. Saves money and you get some new shutters. You can go to your "settings" tab ( upper right) then signature edit.

0 sprayer dave 14 Report post Posted November 19, 2010 I guess I got it. I did not check the "show your signature" box. I think the shutters will look pretty sharp. Thanks again.

0 Beth n Rod 1,279 Report post Posted November 20, 2010 Depending on the house and the look you are going for, it could look either very cool, or like a cheap knock off. Look for older reclaimed lumber, something rough. I would not use deck boards per se. Hope these links give you some ideas..... http://exteriorsolutions.com/c-79-board-n-batten.aspx http://www.sunbeltshutters.com/board_and_batten_shutters.asp http://www.decorativeshutters.com/shop_cart/wood_bb.php?type=joined Beth
0 sprayer dave 14 Report post Posted November 21, 2010 Thanks for the ideas Beth. My plan was to use a tablesaw to cut off the rounded edges and rip the boards into 4" widths, nail them together, clean them up and stain them to match the deck. The house is a rental that I own, I am hoping to give it a rustic look.
