Chappy 138 Report post Posted June 3, 2011 (edited) Got a call from a lady that is worried about her old wood deck leaching arsenic. Do the stains on the market stop leaching. I remember reading about it years ago, but can't find the info now Edited June 3, 2011 by Chappy
0 Doug Black 18 Report post Posted June 3, 2011 I read a government report that said that pressure cleaning wood can reduce arsenic by up to 90%. I don't know anything about what stains could do though, but I wouldn't think much, unless they fully encapsulate. All wood before 2003 or so has arsenic. 0 Beth n Rod 1,279 Report post Posted June 3, 2011 As long as you maintain the deck coating, I have been told yes they do. I was told this MANY years ago, and I am not sure of the accuracy....although it makes some sense. Beth
0 Scott Paul 164 Report post Posted June 4, 2011 It makes sense that if you use a curing stain that dries near or at the surface then yes it would help prevent "leaching" of the arsenic.
