Applying water based stain on older oil based stained deck?

I have a deck like most other previously stained decks has plenty of stain on the railings and virtually no remaining stain on the floor boards.. I have been using water based stains for much easier clean up and just curious if it would be ok to apply a new coat of water based over the older oil based?

I am matching the same stain color that is currently on the deck

FWIW, I know you cannot do the opposite. We do not use water based stains, only strip 'em off. May want to check the manufacturer's website to check on proper prep.

Rob, I would think what Rick said would be correct to the opposite as well. Water and oil don't mix. I don't think I would risk this one.

Ok figured, thanks for the advise.. Good to know with the increased amount of water based stuff now
