bleach on wood siding

Question

Can I use bleach on wood siding to remove black mildew. H/O had pw done in the past and black mildew returned within a few months. Lst co. used jomax. Will bleach harm wood siding? Suggestions please !!

Wood is 15 yrs old with cabot stain on it.

Well if you are going to re stain it with a diff stain you will want to strip that Cabots.

If you are just trying to kill mildew mix some bleach/soap and it should clean up just fine. :cool:

If it is 15 years old, we would bid to strip it and restain it.

If they only want the mildew gone, a percarb with work fine. But after 15 years, they really need to strip it and restain or reseal it. Mind you, I have no photos to go by and this advice is based upon the age of the stain, sight unseen.

Read the above....

One is sodium hypochorite, the other is Di-Sodiumperoxidicarbonate .

Sodium hypochorite can harm the wood and break down the lignin if used improperly. Better safe than sorry, we use the percarb.
