Spider Webs

Hi,

I just washed a house that was covered with a lot of spider webs. These webs then picked up and retained lots of dirt.

I was able to remove all the webs, although with a lot of effort as the PW process just seemed to move the spider webs around instead of removing them.

The owners asked me if I knew of anyway to prevent the spider webs from forming on their house in the first place.

Anyone have any suggestions on this?

The only way is to have a pest control company come out and spray the house for spiders. I have several customers whose houses I wash every spring, then they have the pest control company apply the spider spray.

Ditto what Tony said. If you use chlorine in your housewash mix, you should have a much easier time getting rid of webs and cocoons, and you'll also chase away the resident spiders (though more will come back).

I have been using bleach, although maybe not enough.

Is pool chorine better to use then bleach?

add some wet wax to your rinse.....spiders will slip and slide all over the place, their little feet wont be able to get any traction, then they'll move to the neighbors house......

Yes, bleach will work, it's just less convenient and usually more costly.

LOL...Nevermind. :rolleyes:

If I'm downstreaming, I use either straight chlorine (10.5%) or a 90/10 mix of pool chlorine and soap.

If I'm Xjetting, I use 2 gallons of chlorine, 1 gallon of soap, and water in a 5 gallon bucket.

I am not using anywhere near that much Bleach in my housewash. My mixture is about 10% bleach.

Looks like I gotta add a lot more bleach/Clorine to the mix.

Do you buy your clorine from a pool supply business?

Yep! It costs me about $1.12/gallon. I'm sure that in some cases I'm using more than I need, but it keeps me from wasting time adjusting my mix when the weaker mix isn't effective. I typically use 5 gallons or so on a housewash, so it isn't a real cost factor.

The mix I use makes webs lose their ability to stick to the surface and they come off rather easily.

The spiders will return unless they have a regular service from a pest control company. This year sure has been the year of the spiders though.

I have seen some pretty huge and amazing looking ones recently.

To get rid of spiders without using pesticides:

Mix 1 cup of distilled white vinegar with a few drops of coconut oil.

The solution can be applied indoor or outdoor.
