egsingerdude 14 Report post Posted August 18, 2006 I have a new IPE deck, about 2 months old. I want to seal/stain it, and was planning on using Cabot's. What kind of prep is recommended to get the best result with the Cabot's? Anything in particular to be aware of? Better to seal this fall or wait until spring? Thanks! Beth n Rod 1,279 Report post Posted August 19, 2006 Wait until spring. Wash it and then follow the mfrs. directions. With the new VOC regulations affecting product formulations, the jury is out on what exactly to recommend for Ipe'. The reason being that there have been a number of mildew growth durability issues coming up and this makes for some hesitatancy in providing a recommendation at this time. Cabot Australian Timber oil was a product of choice but now we are exploring others and evaluating them since the changes and consumer feedback.
