usmc2311 14 Report post Posted April 14, 2007 Hello all, I have been reading your forums. You guys really all are experienced and very intelligent with your knowledge. I work for a property management company in Charleston SC. My boss is making me into Mr. "handyman". My new job is going to be cleaning and staining a customers Teak furniture, and its a lot of furniture. My job is to learn how to correctly do this. I have to buy a power washer, cleaner etc. I have never power washed. I would eventually be doing decks as well. Do you recommend chlorine bleach over HD80 efc3? I ask because the different companies we use to do this and do houses all use bleach. I am asking because I want do this as professional as possible (why am here). For decks and furniture could I use a pressure washer from lowes 300 - 500 dollars? Any help would be appreciated. Thank You
Barry M 73 Report post Posted April 14, 2007 I don't know you personally but I know a few PM's in my area that have tried to do things on their own. If you calculate the cost of time, equipment, materials, and the overall finished quality your better off to call a professional to do the job. Just my 2 pennies. Freshlook 14 Report post Posted April 14, 2007 Good luck, that's like being able to understand trig after 1 day of class, it's going to take you awhile to know how to do what your boss is asking you to do. Even the pros who have been in each industry 10-20 years learn something new. New chem's and all other things going on.. Just utilize the search function, and you will easily find the general minimal suggested PW. If your doing this as part of your job I CERTAINLY would not get one from a big box store. John Orr 206 Report post Posted August 9, 2011 Do you really want to practice on someone else's expensive teak furniture? In any event, $3-500 pw'ers are toys and won't last. At a minimum, you'll need to spend $1000 on something with a 13 hp engine. The problem with that is that the more powerful the machine, the greater the likelihood of causing damage. I don't envy your situation.
cleanhoods 43 Report post Posted August 9, 2011 (edited) If your boss really wants you to do powerwashing work for him, have him send you to a power washer school and learn first. I assume usmc you are a marine you wouldnt expect a normal citizen like me do what you can do without training and machine wise you as a marine wouldnt go to combat in a ford escort and a sling shot for a weapon..yes it will work but not like a hummer and a m16 right? Go to a school have boss pay for it and then get a good machine that will last, rebuild, and perform and do the job like your boss would like. Just advice.
