troymclur 14 Report post Posted May 7, 2007 I just sanded my ceder deck, do I have to wash it prior to sealing it or can I just go ahead and seal it right after the sanding??
0 bigchaz 157 Report post Posted May 7, 2007 Did you wash it before you sanded it? What grit sandpaper you use? How much wood did you sand off?
0 MMI Enterprises 289 Report post Posted May 7, 2007 Newbie says no if you got through the dead stuff.... But why not go ahead and neutralize/brighten it?..They say some stains like more of a neutral or actually acidic surface to absorb into...and it may help all boards turn out more even due to varying ph levels between them..just a thought.. 0 troymclur 14 Report post Posted May 8, 2007 I used 50 grit sandpaper. NO washing. I took the top layer off as I had some new Behr crap stain I had to get rid of.
0 bigchaz 157 Report post Posted May 8, 2007 50 grit im sure youll be fine then if you got the dust off then go for it
0 PressurePros 249 Report post Posted May 8, 2007 I say wash it with a percarb based product and remove all the contaminants that could affect your finish.
0 Beth n Rod 1,279 Report post Posted May 8, 2007 With Behr being the last product on it, you may have some residual staining that will appear upon application of the new product. If so, stop, strip it and the entire deck again, neutralize, allow to dry, defur and then seal. Rod!~
