    Ok...I'm registered. :) Beth
  2. Have you survived the great Recession?

Every business should have a plan for economic downturn that they can implement if needed. Contingency planning is vital to the success of any business. As the saying goes....if you fail to plan, you are planning to fail. If you don't have a recovery plan for the upswing, now is the time for that too. Beth
  3. Have you survived the great Recession?

I know about the milkman but it was sad to see them stop delivering fresh milk. Now the only milkmen we ever see is the ones 'milking' the clock. hehe This year has been a test for many and we kept pushing to stay in front of our customers and it paid off...we stayed busy. Rod!~
  4. Water drop test! If it absorbs, you can apply, if it doesn't then you have to either sand deeper or apply another strip. Rod!~
  5. Live and learn....at least you got it off. Beth
  6. Petriwood or Cedarshield

Hey ROBERTA.... No answer? Or do you work for them and is this just more SPAM I need to delete and should I just ban you.....Please respond, fill in your signature and verify who you are. Sorry all, it's been a bad week. My tolerance for BS is low. :-( Beth
  7. I need to get our project entered! Beth
  8. We use a number of products that take a wet/wet application, and the 2nd application is approximately 50% of the first coat. Given that you could expect to use on a 300sqft deck-125sqft/gal first coat = 2.4 gallons The 2nd coat should get you around 200sqft/gal = 1.5 gallons which sums it to 3.9 gallons. round up to 4 gallons and you are looking at 212.00 + tax. Now, I gotta ask; do they carry it in a 5'er and is the price better on that size vs the single gallon? My next question is, how long is this product supposed to last? what are the maintenance requirements? will it accept itself on future coats without stripping....wet/wet applications sometimes bare this problem due to molecular adhesion conditions which are determined by the state of the cure. Will the customer keep the required regimen for this product or are they likely to skip a couple of years. When I get the "I want it to last" comments means they are doing this only as a last resort and usually only as minimally necessary. Rod!~
  9. How do you get referrals?

Well Ken, I don't know where you are going with that but I will leave it alone. That being said, in answering the initial posters question, referrals are the result of a doing a number of things right. 1. Service 2. Quality 3. Responsiveness 4. Communication 5. Completion Now, while it may seem pretty straight forward to some, most don't get that there is more to it than what I just listed. Anyone can go through the motions and get the paycheck at the end of a job, but it is what you do in the interim between the first meeting till the end that counts. Asking for a referral is part of sales where one is always closing for the next sale. Earning it is entirely another! Cover the 5 points above and deliver each with courtesy and respect. Put in an extra little value added service (one that takes only a few minutes) and make sure the customer gets a walk around after the service is complete to make sure all has been covered and the punch-list is clear. Instill confidence in the customer and you will get the coveted referral. Rod!~

If nothing works, replace the board if the owner doesn't like it. Beth

Best of luck with it, and of course you are welcome to use the chat feature here on TGS as well. Beth
  12. Uamcc - Elects BOD

Um....you have one former PWNA BOD. You do also have a chapter leader from PWNA. Beth
  13. I prefer a longer lasting oil. I also like an oil that dries. Armstrong Clark has both drying and nondrying oils, the drying oil locks the color in closer to the surface, thus it is longer lasting.... Beth
  14. Take a look at some of the Armstrong Clark threads on here....try the search feature. We love the blend of non-drying and drying oils, best of both worlds. We used to use Ready Seal, were not fans, but really like the Armstrong Clark. Beth
  15. We love Armstrong Clark. Not Ready Seal fans, but Armstrong Clark gets two HUGE thumbs up from us. Beth

Hope they have a good show. We won't be there, will be working on a very large project. Enjoy! Beth
  21. Pressure spike

Sounds to me like the unloader isn't working correctly. From what I understand, the unloader senses when the pressure goes up and shuts off the flow to the line but the amount is set in accordance with the working pressure. Your spikes are a bit high which tells me it has something wrong with it...hopefully, one of our astute mechanically inclined members can shed some light on it for you. Rod!~
  22. Frost

    FROST SUCKS!!!! Beth
  23. Today was a real test for Armstrong Clark's compatibility.... my Nextel phone fell off of my belt and into a full tray of Super Cedar..... The phone....SURVIVED!!!! I dropped what I was doing and cleaned it off immediately....and it's fine. But I will say, I was holding my breath for a while..... Beth
  24. Cabots Solid Stain

....you mention that you sanded it, but was it washed? This deck is an ideal candidate for a light bleach bath. And I agree with Ken, do not put a solid on this - I would put a semi-trans oil on it that will not fail the same was a solid will. Much easier to maintain in the future too. Beth :cup:
