Suggestions wanted on this mammoth Tree House
Beth n Rod replied to Rob R.'s question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
You are under heavy tree cover. You are going to get mildew and algae quickly, just as you would on a north side of a home. Beth -

Pressure Treated lumber, which version is hard to tell without learning some basics and seeing it before it has had a chance to weather. You will need to do some reading. The USDA Forestry Labs has a wood manual which is big enough to fill a 3" binder. The AWPA American Wood Preservers Association also has a document on different types of pressure treatments for wood and what they look like, the components of the preservative and what each is good for and so on. The WRCLA Western Red Cedar Lumber Association is another source for information on various versions of cedar. Happy researching Rod!~ -
First acrylic strip. Need some input....
Beth n Rod replied to ogetnom27's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Dorado 3031 is overkill on that. HD-80 with a booster from ACR Products will take it. They also have a product called 760 which is extremely hot - it eats just about anything. Beth -

Help with pricing
Beth n Rod replied to Visionzlandscapes's question in Residential Pressure Washing
You are way out of line. The next post I think you should make should be an apology to both Celeste and to myself, since I'm a woman too. I don't want to see that kind of sexist remark again from you, I hope I have made myself clear. As for advice, the forums are full of it and you should use the search feature a bit and read some old threads. Additionally, it's not as easy as pulling a price per square foot out of your posterior area and charging that. You have to determine several things before you can decide on your square foot cost. 1. what are your material costs per square foot (this is why you should learn to measure correctly) 2. what are your labor costs per square foot (HINT - how fast you wash, how many square feet per hour will tell you this) If you don't know these things, you can't hope to charge a square foot price that will net you a profit. I may be a woman, but stupid...I'm not... Beth -
Thanks guys... we're glad to help. Beth

A pump up sprayer has been the beginnings of many. Some use HVLP sprayers like deckers or decksters Others use paint sprayers. Rod!~ -
Photodegration
Beth n Rod replied to JamieP's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
My responses in blue; After 3 years, most products on the market today will have lost their integrity from wear and exposure primarily. This will be represented by either fading or darkening of the finish. On a fence, there should still be pigment left along with signs of mildew growth mostly along the first 8"-12" inches. This is highly dependent upon the preparation, the application, and then the products abilities to last under the circumstances present. Shady conditions will provide for longer durability while western and southern sun exposed sections will show significantly more degradation overall. Rod!~ -
Help with pricing
Beth n Rod replied to Visionzlandscapes's question in Residential Pressure Washing
....yeah, and less accurate for cost calculations and less profitable. Great if it is just a floor...then it works....no offense intended, tried that year one and abandoned it quick, made much more money measuring all the wood... Beth -

How many square feet can you wash in an hour? How long did the deck take to do? How much were your cleaners? Beth -
Reasonably priced contractors?
Beth n Rod replied to plainpainter's question in Residential Pressure Washing
What is reasonably priced? That's a nebulous term. Sell your service, at your price. Explain what you do and uncover the differences between them and you. Your price will not matter as often as you think if you can point the differences out. Sometimes the differences are technique, sometimes materials, number of services performed, etc. We stopped worrying about price years ago. Our focus, is quality. Period. Beth
