Deckster users
Beth n Rod replied to Adrian's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
This is actually quite timely. We have had 2 decker's (pumptec versions) for about 8 years now and they still have the original motors. Everything else on them has been rebuilt or modified since but they have been indispensable in our work. We have one A/C and 2 - 12 volt versions. The A/C version still has the old aluminum manifold while the others have the newer neoprene manifolds. (great for use with caustics) Rod!~ -
I will address this one personally. Roger, As someone who has not shown leadership themselves other than pettiness and blatant disregard for the membership and owners here, you have no room to talk with any credibility. Those who lead by example and act within the rules set by the owners are the ones who get my attention, those like you get pointed out for the trouble makers they are in order to make sure there is no possibility of others falling for the ill will that you have become known for here. There are other bbs's that tolerate your kind of behavior and with that kind of latitude given...Don't you have somewhere else you'd rather be right now? Mel, sorry this guy had to detract from your resignation, but we need to hold everyone accountable otherwise respect is lost for the remaining moderators who are trying to keep TGS the most professional bbs possible and encourage new members to post instead of lurking because of a few who do not follow the rules. We respect your decision and wish you well. Thank you for your efforts in the past and we hope you will continue to be a participating member here on TGS. Rod!~

I said this in a PM, I'll say it again here in public, since you are resigning here and this is the first I am seeing of it. I didn't notice the age of the thread when I infracted you, I was responding to a concern brought to my attention privately. I was in the midst of a couple of others I had to deal with and dealt with all of them at the same time. If I missed the date it makes me HUMAN Mel. If you don't like that I brought it to your attention, well ,I can't help that, I needed to address it. I just want to make one thing clear - I'm NOT perfect, never claimed to be and perhaps now people will believe me when I say, I don't read every thread. Use the report post button and save us all alot of headache. I wish you nothing but the best. We truly appreciate all you have done here on TGS, and hope to see you on here as a regular member. Beth

I can't speak for Chris, but I can speak for Rod and I and it has happened before to us, and it was not a joke to us - at all. We don't appreciate that kind of humor here, and I don't see how anyone would, especially since many of us don't know each other well enough to call that humorous. Beth

Well put! Beth

I doubt he realized you had been locked out of that thread.

Hd80 or EFC 38?
Beth n Rod replied to GAPainter's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Sorry to be critical of your method but until the wash is complete, splash-back from it will undo any neutralizing. Wash first, then neutralize. Leaving any active product on the surface will lead to premature failure which on Ipe is short enough without the help of any chemical left in the substrate. .02 Rod!~ -

Depends on the stain. A percarb will work in most cases. Rod!~ -
Very well put Scott. We have always considered you to be a valuable contributing member here and hope that in some of your spare time, you may find it to be of interest to you to participate in whatever fashion you choose. Until then, thank you for your help and support of TGS. Rod!~

Just FYI, Restore-a-deck website gone, WOW
Beth n Rod replied to gt2003's question in The Club House
You might want to call Ken then. The Sealer store also sells it under a different name, if you can't reach him. Beth -
Scott, We have never tolerated threats. It is a shame you have not contacted me directly about ANY of these goings on. Beth

:D Here is the Simon Cowell version: I think it is absolutely horrible! It doesn't look like a typical contractor website and you could make some of the rest of the contractors look like they are falling behind. Sorry! And now, my version: Nice and neat! Rod!~

What are you masking? Honestly, once water is applied during the wash it will be all over the place. Pump ups are not that bad, used em for years before switching to powered pump units. 2 gallon and 3 gallon sprayers will help get the job done. Apply HD-80 @ 3oz/gal and allow to dwell 15 minutes or until the wood turns uniformly black or close to it. Wash, and then neutralize as usual. Rod!~ -
I agree with you Tony, My advice was based upon the use of Kerosene on small portions and to control the after effects by breaking it down with degreaser. But Yes, I am glad you pointed out the liability of the situation. (dont drink coffee here and although not an excuse, I should have considered that in my post). Thanks Tony for bringing that to light. Rod!~

You have to love a deck with no rails.... Beth  -
Kerosene and a brush to get the tar off. Wash with a degreaser afterwards. Rod!~

Solid Stain Strip
Beth n Rod replied to Gutter Squad's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
In our experience, stripping a solid stain was one thing, getting it out of the cracks and crevices was another. Making it look natural with any transparent-semi transparent stain was impossible without changing the boards. The best option is to apply another solid but a natural wood tone in the browns range would work. Don't know what your customer is looking for but I have to agree with Terry. The spindles would be a royal one for your stripping enjoyment. Rod!~ -
We HAVE to set the example. We have to not pick at the members. It was another very well respected mod here who I deeply respect that discussed this with me. I believe his perspective was accurate. He is highly respected here and on other forums as well, with no questions asked. Several well respected mods felt this way. Personal friendships and sour relationships often cloud views, we have all had that happen. It's easy to get emotional, far more difficult to remain detached. I'm not going to get into a discussion on vendors, other forums, treatment, allowing bashing, support or lack thereof. At this point it is water under the bridge. We appreciate the efforts you have made here to inform and educate others, and to better the industry. Thank you Squirtgun! :) Beth

I can appreciate your position as it is difficult when we are personally invested in a subject to remain objective and not become part of the fray. When invited to become a moderator this is not what we asked for from you and in all fairness we must hold moderators responsible as well as the members and therein lies the infraction. It was your first and it is a shame it had to come to this but the choice is yours and we shall oblige. With all due respect, thank you for your service as you did support TGS during your time as a moderator and we appreciate your efforts and continued membership here. Rod!~

The good, the bad, and the ugly on TGS; about forum conduct
Beth n Rod replied to Beth n Rod's question in The Club House
We all make mistakes. (I know I do...) The important thing is working through them, and to that end trying to be a better person. Thank you for your apology. It is appreciated. :) Beth -

I think this link will get you to the page you need. http://www.thegrimescene.com/forums/payments.php It doesn't renew automatically. I had it set that way once and it was more problem than it was worth, so anyone who wants to donate...the link is above for it. Thanks for thinking of TGS! Beth :) -
Propylene Glycol?
Beth n Rod replied to 814jeffw's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
According to the chemical reactivity worksheet, the results of this combination are not very good. While some may have seen this combination in other solutions, there are probably stabilizers and buffers to allow the combination without any dangerous reaction. I love this new worksheet...
