Beth n Rod replied to Atlantic Power Washing's question in Residential Pressure Washing
I took the liberty of copy pasting the article here and quoted it for others to read. Enjoy. Page 2: Here was a quote from a local company in the article: Rod!~ -
Yeah, I don't care for High Pressure sales either. To me, it is the same as a "get the money now and b*ll sh*t them later to keep it" maneuver. My last boss used to call me "Luke Saleswalker" because I was no pressure in my selling technique, but what I sold stayed sold and my return rate was the lowest in the area. When working on a commision, it was painful to come to work and find a big $$$ item returned because I pushed to hard when the customer wasn't sure it was the right fit. Same applies to contracting and we have built a pretty stable client base as a result. Rod!~

Annual Rant - Ode to fake phone calls
Beth n Rod replied to Beth n Rod's topic in Business Topics & Tips
Had one get pissed at me the other day when I would not give him a phone price, and the more I very nicely said no, the angrier he got, until I finally said I didn't how much he demanded, I wasn't giving them to him - mind you, I had no info from him, although caller ID showed him to have come in from SW DC with reverse lookup (a real money haven that) and I'm pretty sure I know what company he worked for. They are not licensed. I think we discussed them recently. ;) Calling from home or a friends place I suspect... I get guys who call and tell me exactly who they are, and I help them, send leads etc. But then, I appreciate the honesty and respect, and give it in return. Beth -

You need to use the <a href="http://www.url here.com"> then type something like click here to read the story then the end tag </a> ALSO consider printing a copy, scanning it and uploading it as a PDF to your site and linking to it because it won't be around forever. Only thing that will change is the path in the first tag which becomes the path where you store the PDF. Hope this helps. Beth -
Leaving it IN the mailbox is against the law. Only a US postal service worker or the resident at the address is allowed IN the box. If they can't be there, you can either leave it on the door knob, maybe risk it being stolen by the competition, OR mail it. Beth

Annual Rant - Ode to fake phone calls
Beth n Rod replied to Beth n Rod's topic in Business Topics & Tips
Some of the people who call and ask for pricing over the phone are rather insistent about it. These are the ones that are the dead giveaways. Especially when they argue with you. 2nd flag! Customers don't do that. They will acquiesce to a visit and often want to be there so they can talk to you personally. Some contractors who couldn't get us to spill it on the phone have actually called back and gave us some fake addresses albeit with another person as a confederate. Map software and reverse lookup helps to sort them out most of the time. Rod!~ -
I was not able to find an MSDS for either of the products which is essential in determining it's suitability and voc compliance where we are. Second, you will not find any fans here of products containing silicone ingredients due to the problems it can create within the wood and future applications. I am not contesting the product or its claims at this point because it is too new and has no verifiable field results for applicators like ourselves to offer. I would like to issue a beware due to the lack of product data sheets or msds which help one to determine the application measures, preparatory information and maintenance procedures necessary when dealing with either of these products...beforehand. The sites that promote them are full of sales pitches but lack any real life application validations. At this point, I am very skeptical at best. Rod!~

2006 Sealer Poll: Which are you using this year?
Beth n Rod posted a question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Hey all, It's time to launch a new poll for 2006 to see what everyone is using, why and what you have on hand that you are not using and perhaps why as well there too. Let's hear from you... Rod!~ -

It just gets me going....nobody likes to have their time wasted, it should be by honest choice that we decide to help. I help guys in MD all the time, but NOT if they act like children.... Back to work for me. No more rant from Beth... No more coffee either! Beth :groovy3: -
Annual Rant - Ode to fake phone calls
Beth n Rod replied to Beth n Rod's topic in Business Topics & Tips
Don't mind me, but I think it is better to be honest, and call someone who is out of your service area to learn that or network on the forums. I hate that people would have you come alllll the way out to look at their property, give prices, leave literature, and not being forthcoming about it. Just bugs the cr*p out of me. I have a lot more respect for the guy who calls and says help me I'm new and I don't know what I need to do. That's the guy I'll help. Welcome to TGS. Please add your signature. :) Beth -

Downstreaming Decks?
Beth n Rod replied to 814jeffw's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
We have two types currently; PumpTec and Delevan for chemical applications, and we have Titan sprayers for stain application. The chem sprayers only apply cleaners and strippers, pump ups are used for applying neutralizer Rod!~ -

We apply directly through a sprayer, and yes, if not careful, the chems can have an effect on them. Rod!~ -
Downstreaming Decks?
Beth n Rod replied to 814jeffw's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Not wanting to scare anyone just keeping it real, but did hear a story a couple years back from another contractor in another state who does this and ended up replacing windows on an entire house (no joke) due to spotting up the window trim on the back. We prefer to learn from the mistakes of others rather than repeat them. You can spray in a more controlled fashion with very little extra job time. (no not a pump up) Beth :cup: A good thread starts with coffee :cup: -
Are you a home owner or a contractor? :) Beth

Downstreaming Decks?
Beth n Rod replied to 814jeffw's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Not to start an argument here, I am talking about the paint coming off of window trim, spotting paint finishes, discoloration of aluminum siding, spots on the leaves of plants, dead grass, burned pine needles...etc. Anyone else may have been fortunate in downstreaming, but I am not willing to do it to begin with. The liability is to high, besides, customers remember the little stuff and call someone else the next time. Not worth the risk. After all, it's THEIR property. Jeff, I am not saying don't, just saying what has been a problem for us. for what it's worth.... Rod!~ -
