  3. Downsizing your business for 09??

I was in the post office the other day, and was chatting with the postal clerk. Her husband has a construction company and 10 employees. Right now they are working two guys part time in shifts, it is all they can do. They also had to cancel their health insurance policy for everyone. Her job is carrying them. I agree John, this is going to be a tough year on many. Trim expenses where you can. Beth

  12. could've been nice

Two tons is/is not alot of media depending on the area....if it is open, if the media is biodegradable, etc... There are specific pieces of equipment for reclaiming media but they are costly and depending on how much media we are talking about may not be worth it. What media did they use? Beth
  13. This has happened so the theory is fact. As a result, we put the socket on the end of the first line holding the gun. This way the collar is kept in place by friction and does not come off. Also, we keep the plastic hose restrictors pulled up to the connection to make a bridge which also helps to keep it cleaner. Not perfect but it works. The hose is hard threaded to the reel with a swivel to help keep it from knotting up. I also have a ball valve at the outlet of the machine to shut off any line (2 gun system) that has a problem. This also allows me to change whip hoses between the machine and reel without stopping the unit. In addition, I use a whip line with a mosmatic swivel before the gun and my guys love it. Keeps the loops out of the line and no spinning needed to un-tangle them. I had a gun go bad on one and had to change it out for another that didn't have the whip line on it and my crewman grumbled and groused about it. Oh well... Rod!~
  14. Hey Rick, Steelers or Cardinals?

  15. Does everybody start out as a "lowballer"?

When you can't find work where you draw a check, you make ends meet however you can. Some of these people may have a pressure washer in their garage already from doing their OWN decks etc....LOTS of people have them, lots of our customers have them, use them once then let them sit there. Beth
  16. Does everybody start out as a "lowballer"?

See, I think the opposite will happen. I think that those out of work who are unable to find jobs, will look to other avenues such as this....and those who need to supplement their income will add this as part time work. On the news the other night there was a report...the anchor said "its a great time to start a business because you will have lower costs than your established competition...." Gee thanks for THAT..... Beth
  17. Nah....we don't hate you, but we do envy you. Enjoy the weather and make the hay while it's warm and the opportunity is there. Don't forget the pics!!! Beth :cup:
  18. Does everybody start out as a "lowballer"?

Bump! It's that time of year, and in this economy it is an important discussion to have. Beth
  19. Are we professionals?

I hear a can opening...:whoops: This subject was taken up in an extremely long thread before but in the case of how this one is paraphrased, I think some are gonna feel their toes are being stepped upon. Personally, the act of going into business in itself is a huge leap of faith. Going from a regular paycheck (current economy withstanding) to one that depends solely on the efforts of the individual has been compared literally to a circus act without a net. I would not deride anyone based upon the criteria mentioned here but I would consider indicators of success or failure based upon the methods employed in the process of being in business as to whether it was professionally managed or not. Even then, the arguments can become arbitrary. Having knowledge of business accounting terms and their place in the scope of management is nothing less than experience from education of some sort and whether it be from an accredited institution or self taught, the basis of what these types of reports provides can only be used by someone who really is serious about producing results. I think this could be your point. What is professional? According to definition by Merriam-Webster; Proceeding from this we can derive what constitutes a professional. Now some may have a particular idea of what is professional vs what is not but in the end it still is all arbitrary. Having leveled the field here, I will leave it to others to post their views and comments and see where that leads. Rod!~
