  4. Let's discuss linkbacks

In this same discussion I'll remind everyone that as you participate in threads, you should add TAGS which are keywords. TGS has a tag cloud, which is basically a composition of all the keywords used in the tags and how often. All this is good SEO and helps the threads get found. So, if you are linking, make the links count with the use of tags as well. Beth

That is just too cool! I once sat in on a seminar to try to learn to cook competition chili as a hobby (rules etc were covered), but then life took hold and I never did it. It is awesome you did this! Beth

  18. Plan for Sealing--Opinions Please

My responses in blue: Reason being is that if you apply ShellGuard 1st, you will wash it all off during the other process steps plus change it's composition if any remains by using any other chemical cleaner/brightener. It should be the last product before any sealer or finish is applied in order to remain in the wood to provide any benefit. Rod!~

-Rod here- The flex wand looks like this: Flexible Pressure Washer Wand The Spray Flex Wand Ships At No Cost - Apex Unlimited There are 2 versions, one is the 3000 psi and the other is a newer 5000 psi rated one that is a bit stiffer. These come in handy in tight spaces and when doing rails from the opposite side. Here is a video Beth took of me some time back using one... See Dirt Run! - Deck washing in progress - Maryland Rod!~
  21. what lances do you like why.

We have both, but use the single lance the most. A good ball valve is a MUST. Makes life soooo much easier and convenient. Also love a good flex wand. Beth

  24. Value vs. Price myth

I have found that asking about their budget is like asking them to reveal the ace up their sleeve. Most want to keep that part to themselves as experience has taught some that it is part of the bargaining process. Unfortunately, most do not realize that bargaining is not a very good strategy with a company that has learned how to price their services and maintain a margin. I ask instead: "what were you looking to spend on this project." or "Did you have an idea of how much this would cost?" Questions like these are indicators of perceived value. Overcoming perceived value is a matter of tactfully educating the customer if their perception is unrealistic. With fence restoration especially on the large ones the calculations can amount to a huge price. A sliding scale works best and the cost is usually lower per sqft than a deck because the work is so much faster and easier. Trying to convince a customer that has a 600 sqft fence vs a 400 sqft deck the price is justified is comparable to looking at a shed vs a house. One just looks like more work yet the fence will be done before the deck believe it or not. Now proceeding from your initial statement of the fact that they are so in tune to the initial price of the fence means that the fence is a source of pain for that customer and you have to find out why that pain is there. * Was it put up under duress from the spouse? * Did it take away funds from something else they wanted to use it for? (vacation, etc) * Do they have problems with people encroaching on their property? * Do they have small children they are trying to keep safe? * Is the prospect of maintaining the fence keeping them from spending the money on other priorities? Whatever it is, there is pain associated with this fence and you have to get the customer to tell you what that pain is and in the process, a series of well placed questions can get them to overcome their own objections. It is possible that you would during the course of the consultation come to an understanding that would help you to tailor your services to meet their needs at a price they are willing to pay. It may not be the whole enchilada but a chance to develop a relationship none the less. Rod!~
