rtate 14 Report post Posted June 22, 2008 I am going t go with Woodrich wiping stain for my IPE deck but I can't decide on which color to use. The woodrich site reccomends "brown sugar" but most of the pictures aroud hear seem to be of "warm honey" I want to retain the original ipe look and I understand that there is less pigment in the warm honey so less UV protection I have reserved myself to the fact that this will probably be a yearly job and thats ok... There is not a lot of direct sun because of the tree. What would you reccomend...
0 Beth n Rod 1,279 Report post Posted June 22, 2008 The longevity will be about the same on ipe really. We prefer the Warm Honey Gold. There is enough brown tone in the ipe as it is. It will be beautiful. Beth
0 Chappy 138 Report post Posted June 22, 2008 I like the warm honey as it seems to bring out the colors in the Ipe. where as the brown sugar tends to hide them more as the pigment is darker. you will get a more even look with brown sugar. If you want to see what the warm honey looks like just wet the ipe. that will give you a close representation of the end result.

0 Celeste 341 Report post Posted June 22, 2008 We use more WHG than anything on Ipe as well :) Seems to highlight and enhance every tone in the wood.
0 RPetry 564 Report post Posted June 22, 2008 Kind of like Ken's old WoodZotic mix, 50/50 western cedar/brown sugar on ipe'. Also looks good on red mahogany.
