Bart 14 Report post Posted May 7, 2004 I have pulled my interpump apart to replace the packings and seals, and I am wondering if on reassembling it if I have to put any type gasket sealer on the pump head or do I put it back on and torque it down ? Cheers Rob.
Jon 533 Report post Posted May 7, 2004 I believe you just put them back on and torque them down to specs. Just be sure both surfaces are clean and smooth.
Bart 14 Report post Posted May 8, 2004 Thanks for your reply Jon, I have read alot of posts about it but they dont say if you have to put on a gasket sealer or not. Cheers Rob.
squirtgun 122 Report post Posted May 8, 2004 No need for gasket seal, just a little locktite on the bolts so they won't seize.
Aplus 525 Report post Posted May 8, 2004 The packings on the pump head provide the water seal. No need for a gasket between the pump body and head. Anti-seize compound on the threads never hurts.
Russ Johnson 141 Report post Posted May 8, 2004 Don't forget to grease the plungers before you try to slide the manifold on.

Scott Stone 604 Report post Posted May 9, 2004 Hmm, I have never greased the plungers before. Does it help in reassembly, and does it increase packing life? Scott Stone
Russ Johnson 141 Report post Posted May 9, 2004 Yeah, Scott, the head slides on a whole lot easier, and reduces the risk of tearing a seal.
Scott Stone 604 Report post Posted May 10, 2004 So what kindof grease do you use. I am willing to try it. White lithium, or automotive? Scott
Russ Johnson 141 Report post Posted May 10, 2004 Doesn't matter. As long as it's slippery. I even use oil when there's no grease available.
