Gutter Sucker-Mike Hughes

Question

Does anyone remember Mike Hughes and if he is in Business anymore? He was not far from me and around 10 years ago I sold him a Gutter machine that I had built for me. It was a huge shop vac that cost me 6,000-7,000 to have made and it would suck everything, I called it the Gutter Sucker. It was good for cleaning everything out of the gutter but it was not easy to dump, it smelled bad after a couple days. We used it for 3-4 years and then I wanted to get out of the gutter business and he bought the machine. I wanted to know if the Gutter Sucker is still alive?

I use to talk to Mike and also met up with him years ago at a NJ RT. What a nice guy who use to be a huge bulletin board guy. He also was an Adminstrator to 3-4 bb's which to this day is the most I know of anyone doing in the Powerwashing Industry. He was the Admin at one time of PWN, ***, His own Gutter BB called Gutter Source I think it was and he may have been the PWNA BB admin there at one time.

Mike was so heavy into the bb's that as alot of people do he realized that he had to move on from that. He's also been out of the Powerwashing business I'd say at least 4-5 yrs now.

I have not heard anything about him for a long time. We did not run into each other that much, I do not think he did a lot of power washing. He is a nice guy. Someone was asking me about the Gutter Sucker the other day and I was wondering if anyone has heard about it or what he did with it.

You would stick in the top and feel the vacuum at the bottom or Not. If it was clogged you would here the vacuum engine get louder.

Hey Brian! Thats the reverse how i test the downspout! The clog is usually at the top between the 2 elbows. So a ladder would have to be set.

Not if you are doing from the ground.

What I mean is if the downspout is clogged how would you clean it? Other than settin a ladder? The clog is rarely at the bottom elbow, 1 in 20? Could run a snake up it. I have one for that Used it a couple times. Just use the snake for other stuff now. Since the clog is at the top most times it has to be addressed there. Usually some tapping on the elbow or section of ds where the clog is and it shoots. then drop a penny to make sure its all the way clean. Thats how we do it. The vac???? using the vac and you come accross a clogged DS what do you do?

Thanks, I just wanted to know if anyone was using it. I'm surprised he did not try to sell it back to me.

Vacuum and filtration systems should be considered quite modular..

Electrically driven, or gas-engine driven systems can be capable of evacuating

whatever you want to suck up, as fast as you can afford to go.

And filtration can manage "bucklet-loads", or barrel-loads,

as required for profitable work-speed.

Some of you already have a system for wash water control..

just add a DebrisBag to an existing VacWasteTank,

and you have an easier way of cleaning a bucket-load of debris out of it.

need more capacity ??

add a DebrisTrap, and trap a barrel-full..

Many modular and affordable components are available for work-speed,

Call your local service center for the latest info from the manufacturers,

that's (supposed to be) one of the benefits in having local service.

Isn't there a place for vendors to hawk there wares other than here.

LOL!!! I dont care how good they suck or how much. Cant do the downspouts. You dont have nuthing with just clean gutters and clogged downspouts? That a no brainer??? So IMHO they are worthless for cleaning gutters?

The first benefit in having a vacuum for the down-spouts,

is wash water control.. You now have to deal with it, so..

the more ways you can use the vacuum, the faster it can pay for itself.

If you work faster, you make more per hour.

If you do a better job, you get referrals from your customers.

Leading-edge (custom system) manufacturers make it possible for you to profit.

Back on the vac for gutter cleaning..

There's a big difference between fan-type vacuum motors, and positive-displacement blower-vacs..

Until you've seen a 16+ horsepower dragging whatever out-the down-spout,

you're missing some profitable work, on existing jobs.

Even if you only use a vacuum to more easily control the clean-up, you're better off,

and you can hold up "the Enviro-Friendly flag". Eh?

its amazing to see the amount of people who are gone from several years ago,it shows how badly damaged this business was hit over the last 2 years.

its a shame to see so many people who spent so much of there time investing in growing the business dissapear.

the gutter source forum was a great board.

The only problem was to get rid of all the dirt and water. Open up that tank after a week and WOW. It did great on the down spout and did go faster. I also was able to sell people on the fact of it getting everything out and taking it away. When using your hand it is hard to get everything. EH?

Vacuum can be used for Hydro-Excavating..

23hp can fill a 55gl drum with wet sand in about 7 minutes !

Of course they can suck-the-heck out of raingutters.
