0 EmpirePW 14 Report post Posted July 5, 2004 Sounds like duct tape will work. When I work in kitchens I put plastic over the outlets and duct tape them down. I do this for the kitchen but I also so it for my own safety since I am standing on a wet floor and I have heard that being electrocuted is not all it is cracked up to be. 0 One Tough Pressure 580 Report post Posted July 5, 2004 Careful with that Duct Tape, that it does not remove paint, or leave residue from being hit with hot water. Repainting the wall, or scrubbing at adhesive all day will not make you a happy camper.
0 Aplus 525 Report post Posted July 6, 2004 If the outlets have working covers, we just wash around the outlet, avoiding direct spray as much as possible. If the outlet is exposed, we cover with a piece of duct tape, and avoid direct spraying as much as possible. Actually, I've found at least half of the outside outlets are controlled by an indoor switch, and are generally shut off. Still it's better to be safe then sorry. 0 CLASSICPW 14 Report post Posted July 6, 2004 I have a few kitchen floor accounts and I duct tape them w/ plastic, but i've never had a problem with outdoor GFC's. I though that they instantly breaker off once water is is sensed. I used to work for an electrician and I was under the assumption that GFC's are safe. 0 beyoungsr 14 Report post Posted July 9, 2004 Try the nylon inserts that fit into the receptacle. The child proof type. No tape needed when using these. When the job is complete pop them out for the next job. These however, will not work by themselves on a receptacle that has a bad gasket!
