Ipe deck problems

Question

Customer tried to clean ipe deck himself. First attempt resulted in a fire when he tried to fill his pw while it was running. Fire co put out fire but not before 3/4 of deck was charred. Gave claim to his insurance co and they paid to repair. He has carpenter replace all burnt boards. Then he decided to buy a new pw and wash it again himself. Was attempting to remove Messemers Clear. Now he has called me to rectify his mistakes. In his attempt to clean the old and new wood he has cut gouges into the new ipe. Question is what grit sand paper to sand with and would you use a belt sander or an orbital palm to smooth out the deck boards. Deck is 825 sq ft of surface ipe. How would you charge, thinking of time spent but not sure. Any other secrets I should know?

How deep are the "gouges"? Do you have or can you get good photos of a few of the gouges. With that info I would be able to help

direct you in the right direction with a sanding procedure. Feel free to call if you like. 925-640-2951

Beth,

If I forward photos by email to you can you post them on here

I tried to post them before but I am computer illiterate.

I am sitting on the dock in Ocean City NJ right now but the

weather looks bad so I will probably go back to Pa later and

can email them to you. This computer does not is just for the

boat use.

Randy
