chem injector problems

Recommended Posts

I have an APW skid, 5.6 Gpm, 3500 psi. the chem injector never worked, so I got a general pump 20% one. It never worked and would actually spit water backwards. Just replaced that with another GP 20% injector. and it pulls max of about 5%. I ran it for 1 full minute and drew less than a quarter of a 1 gallon pail!

Its at the outlet of the heating coil. What am I doing wrong? Ive checked my connections, no air leaks.

Any advice would help. Im tired of pulling the XJet out for small sections that would be fine with downstreaming.

Are you using a soap tip or an open end on the lance when trying to draw chem? Occasionally I'll have a problem getting mine to start drawing with the tip on, so I remove it and it starts to siphon and I put it back on then.

Hey Jon there might be a couple of things that might be going on here.I would have to ask how long of hose are you using?Anything over 150 to 200 you have to go down a size smaller oriface so it will draw your chemical. Is your injector facing the right way? I downstream everything with 300' of hose and rarely have problems.

Checked the injector direction, on the last one it was the wrong way. putting it right didnt help. I have 300 ft of hose hooked up now. It wont work on the soap tip or open ended.

Anything over 150 to 200 you have to go down a size smaller oriface so it will draw your chemical. You might need to go down to a 2-3 gpm oriface to draw 300'ft of hose.

Occasionally, the wand itself will become restricted from deposits and limit draw. Try a different gun/wand. I believe you should be using a 2.3 orifice on the injector.

General pump, 2.3 5-8 gpm. Ill try the different wand. and a shorter hose.

If i try the 2-3 gpm one, will I draw 20%. The whole reason I want the injector is to get 20% draw rate. The standard 10% was usless and I stopped using it entirely.

Ok ... here is my problem I can't fix . I have brand new AR pump 4gpm with original downstreamer next to unloader ... used to work for some time ... than I tried to downstream without a gun with just a ball valve on the end ... it worked for some time quite nicely but recently it won't draw anything ... So I bought SUD SUCKER from Envirospec N. which supposed to fix the problem .... I tried it in so many ways and no suction at all.

What's wrong ?

I would appreciate any input.

Thanks

This is an Injector that I designed

Hot Water or Cold Water?

If hot - how hot?

What size Low Pressure Nozzle are you using?

Is the injector between the Unloader and the Gun?

You said a 4 GPM Pump - Right?

Did you install the Number 2 or 3 nozzle in the injector?

Is the Arrow on the injector facing the gun?

One good way to find out if it is the injector is to remove everything from the discharge side of the Injector. Remove the chemical pick-up line from the injector and make absolutely sure no-one is standing in front of the injector and start the engine.

When you do place your finger over the nipple where the chemical pick-up line attaches. You should feel suction. If you do then your problem lies between the injector and gun nozzle and not the injector.

Remember. You should be using the 2 or 3 Injector Nozzle.

The higher the temperature you run a hot water machine - the less chemical you will draw.

The more hose you use - the less chemical you will draw.

The smaller the low pressure nozzle you use on the end of the wand the less chemical you will draw.

When any injector is used to dispense muriatic acid the hose will swell and chances are you will not draw any chemical.

It is very unusual that a Suds Sucker fails but it does happen. Let us know.

Good luck and sorry for all the problems.

Hi

This one is on cold water and I was using my "regular" black soap tip.

Injector is between unloader and the gun.

I installed recommended injector nozzle for my system.

I was looking for an arrow on the injector body and I couldn't find one.

I'm using this machine with 200 ft of house and I'm downstreaming mix of "bleach" and detergents.

I will try to play with it tomorrow and I will let you know if I found the problem or not ...

should be present.

If not here is what you look for.

If you will look in both ends of the injector you will see in one end - a small nozzle. Make sure this nozzle end is where the water enters the injector from the unloader. Also, using an allen wrench, install the #2 nozzle in the injector.

Remember the test I mentioned with the chem line removed and the high pressure hose removed. Just make sure no-one is standing in front of the injector. If - when you perform this test - you do not feel suction on the injecto they you have a bad one. Just call Terri at 912-487-1778 and tell her to call me & I will get you another one right out.

Have a great day. I will be on the road today but Terri will track me down. She always does :-)

The SSS don't have arrows on them anymore. Do like John said and let the water enter the orifice first. Put the injector between the end of the hose and the gun. If it draws then you need to start looking at other problems. Probably the gun is to small or you have a leak somewhere.

Hi again

  • I tested it again with 4 gpm pump with #1 and #2 injector nozzle
  • Than with downstreamer on the end of the hose with and without gun
  • with and without plastic hose
  • checked ceramic ball - everything is fine there
  • nozzle is pointing right direction and the whole unit is assembled the right way
  • tested with 3 different guns ( 8gpm,10 and 12 )
  • tested with 200 ' and 25 ' of high pressure hose

No luck at all. No suction at all.

I'm lucky to get one broke item from a million of good ones ... again. Should I play lottery ? :D

I recently receive 2 new Allison SS injectors. Now that I think about it, they didn't have arrows on them like the others have. But I knew how to install them. Never had a problem yet. All I use is the Allison SS injectors.

Just a FYI here, if you are using a Northern Tools Pressure Gun, I have found several of them that will not let you downstream chemicals.

I know it is the gun because I can take the gun off and downstream with just cracking open the ball valve.

It was their most expensive guns (black gun with yellow trigger, other was black gun with red trigger).

I tried a General and Suttner gun and they downstream ok.

I know, I know. I had a good coupon and was in the store while out of town and thought I would give them a try, I could not return them until I went out of town again. I will not buy their guns again.

There is many better distributors with better products and prices right here on TGS.

I have several guns with different flow rates and different models / brands . I tested many few of them with SSS and I never got any suction. From time to time I used just ball valve to spray some solution but right now this doesn't work at all. I have great pressure and flow but no suction at all.

A non-functioning downstream injector really sucks! But seriously, I always carry at least one spare. In my experience, downstreamers seem to delight in frustrating me. So rather than getting mad, I get even...just swap 'em out. (I quick-connect mine after the coil and before the hose reel.)

If chemical doesn't draw with nothing connected to the outlet of the injector..

it may be connected backwards, its check valve is stuck,

or has too large an oriface to function.

if is DOES draw with nothing connected, connect the hose and gun without a nozzle..

if it draws, you need a larger soap nozzle.

if it DOESN'T draw, the gun has an obstruction, the hose ends are too corroded, or the injector is an size too big for all that hose.

call with any question.
