One Tough Pressure 580 Report post Posted December 3, 2006 BP Says Workers Killed in Alaska, Oklahoma Accidents (Update3) By Bruce Blythe Nov. 28 (Bloomberg) -- BP Plc, Europe's second-largest oil company, said two contract drilling workers were killed in separate accidents within four days earlier this month in Alaska and Oklahoma. Both workers suffered head injuries ``in the course of normal activities'' during the drilling of wells, Ronnie Chappell, a BP spokesman in Houston, said today in a telephone interview. Investigations into the causes of the deaths are still pending, he said. BP said it is cooperating with government agencies in both states on the probes. One of the workers, killed Nov. 13 at the Milne Point oilfield on Alaska's North Slope, was working outdoors near a parked vehicle when he fell and struck his head, Chappell said. The worker was employed by ASRC Energy Services, an Anchorage- based oilfield service contractor. The second accident happened Nov. 17 following the drilling of a well in eastern Oklahoma. The worker, employed by H2S Safety Plus Inc. of Sulphur, Oklahoma, was cleaning a tank when he was struck in the head by the handheld wand of a high-pressure washer, killing him, Chappell said.
