Belmont 14 Report post Posted May 10, 2007 Whats the best way to go about sanding an older large flat redwood deck? Would a traditional floor drum sander work? What grit would u recommend starting with? No prexisiting sealer or stain on the deck thanks

0 Neil_Asheville 114 Report post Posted May 14, 2007 Belmont, what are you trying to accomplish by sanding? Will you be staining it? Redwood is one of the most resilient and dimensionally stable decking woods. How old is 'old' and what type of fasteners have been used? Pics are helpful if you got 'em. /neil
0 Richard 17 Report post Posted May 14, 2007 I have vibrating floor sanders. They weigh 130lbs. Starting with 20 or 36 grit, unless they are fairly new decks, finished with 60 or 80. Like always, you just make sure the nails are reset. Sand papers $6 per sheet. They do an amazing job, save huge time, and impress customers. It's all about the prep.
