linseed oil and paint thinner

Question

The office got a call from a gentleman wanting a bid to clean and seal his deck. He said he has been treating it with linseed oil and paint thinnner for the last 3 years. We use TWP and I was wondering how the deck would look and take the TWP after cleaning and neutralization. Bottom line, never had a project that has been treated like this and don`t know. I told him I would have to do some research and get back to him. Any comments are helpful.

Thanks,

Dave

Tell him frm here on out his deck will no longer:

Turn black from mold

Then turn gray from the sun

Linseed oil is in the majority of stain finishes so it will strip like anything else oil/alkyd based.

I stripped a deck last year for an old guy who has been using Linseed oil for 30 year's on Doug fir. The wood was in great shape gut stained beyond repair (black). I told him to call me in another 30 years.
