What's the WORST thing you can do to wood, or have seen done to wood

Question

This thread is in honor of Rick and all the other woodies who hang out here.

You asked for a debate thread, make it happen!

What's the worst thing you could to do wood, or have seen done to wood, or even ever did as a rookie to wood?

Beth

Bleach, hydroxide, vinegar, etc. etc., many things can be bad for wood in disolving it into pulp or turning it like a rubber band..... All about concentration and/or neutralizing. But since it was thrown out as bait I'll go ahead and partake.. If you don't use bleach on a moldy nasty deck yer nuts and taking risk at future problems. :)

Beth,

Yeah, you found it! Too bad a lot was edited out, it got pretty heated at times. But it was hilarious, fun, and actually a lot of good information was presented.

Jim,

Hands down, that is the finest looking PT deck that I have ever seen.

Good Lord Scott, a pack rat like you could ruin a man's reputation!

I miss Shane, he posted some of the best wood restoration photos on the web. A good ol' Cajun with a fun attitude. Hope he is OK.

Arrggg... Painting or using a solid stain on any good wood, redwood, WRC, mahogany, ipe', etc. should be a criminal offense, punishable by forcing the perpetrator to strip it off with a toothbrush and no knee pads.

Are you sure you don't feel very strongly about this? Glad you aren't the wood warden. Yikes.

Nah maybe I shouldn't stir up a nice quiet forum

How about using a surface cleaner to clean it

Or wait I have a good one

How about cleaning with bleach

There this should put some wood in the fire

Actually, been there and done that Dave.

It worked really well and cut my job time by 80% on a huge deck floor.

The wood was Ipe' and did not have any adverse effects.

Although I do not recommend it on softer woods, I just thought I would share that little tidbit.
