Torsion or Leaf Spring?

Recommended Posts

Looking at buying a new trailer. Would like some input concerning suspension. Torsion or leaf spring,...which is prefferable and why?

I have initial thoughts about both. I like the servicability of leafs as to maybe having to replace whatever goes bad in a torsion axle if stressed beyond it's limits.

Thank You,

Jeff

If your going tandem axle just go leaf. Single torsion axles bounce a lot less & you can get a lower deck with a torsion axle. My small trailer is a 2005 single torsion axle 6x12 Well Cargo loaded almost to the max. has served me well, no problems. in 4 years.

I have the same trailer and never had a problem. I did blow out a wheel bearing last Friday though. New hub and bearings were only 45 dollars and took me about 30 minutes to replace. Cheap fix.

What is the max i will carry? double it. You will thank me for this because I have had this problem.

Torsion rides better but springs are cheaper to fix and if the axle take a dump then its not going to take 2-3 weeks to get a new one. I pulled a 44 foot wells cargo and burned up 3 axles which all were torsion bar.

So if you know for sure the weight of your rig and you dont go over it-ever then your safe with T AXLES.
