Who else is going to build a new trailer set-up for 2010?

Question

Who else is building a new trailer set-up for this upcoming year?? I can't wait to get started on mine since I just did a swap for my white trailer to an open trailer. Of course right after x-mas I have to redo my Daughters room and to add some more space in there by cutting into my other daughters room which is pretty large and the mouldings have to be change etc etc etc....but I really can't wait to start with that new trailer:)

Hey Tracy when you do complete some rigs how about showing some of them here so these guys can see how well you put these rigs together.

John, anyone who wants pictures of rigs I've built can drop me an e-mail at tracy@sunbritesupply .com and request them. If I post them in this thread it will be thought of as advertizing and I can't do that here. But I'd be happy to send them to anyone interested.

Right now, it looks like I am going to have to add two rigs this year for garage cleaning in Arizona, and for bus shelter maintenance. I am also going to have to buy another small truck, and that one is for sure. It is nice to be busy.

Oooh.. Custom systems !..

My favorite sport !..

It's always been fun to see how good we can get at 'em ! ..since 1986

You want it Sweet.. we want it Reliable.

You want it Convenient, we want it Serviceable. you know, easy to fix !

You want Performance for the dollar, we want it Long-Term Low-Cost.

You want a "low price," we want to be Affordable.

You want quality Service, we want the Repeat business.

..all the time knowing, when you see the results of good work,

and the job is "Well Done".. there are plenty referrals.

You want referrals too..

Drive up with a professional looking system,

and your "claim to professionalism" has a visual foundation..

one of the sweetest forms of "enticement" (you call it salesmanship).

The last "competitive rig you saw.. Remember that ? ..the cruddy-looking machine??

and the reel that's about to fall-off on the freeway??

You remembered that.

That "funk" that was running down the floorboards..

and that tank.. ..disgustingly memorable.

When people are responsible for a service or product, they remember..

the Sweet from the handicapped, and the Hot-Rod from the clunkers.

I want high-performance customers,

that will pay a reasonable price, for a job well done,

in a timely manner, whilst growing a stronger tomorrow.

You don't have to be an optimist to understand "Looking the part,"

and collecting smiles on delivery.

Now, go forth, turn a terrific profit next year !

The reclaim "gig" means more profitable cleaning contracts than ever before.

As you work it.. Remember your chosen specialty.. contract cleaning.

Do it with Profitable equipment, faster than ever before (vacuum reclaim),

get lots of Respect, ..and the referrals.

I love my job.

What I am trying to figure out on my new machine is should I stay with my homemade 60 gallon water tank are switch to a 330 gallon tank .. It is on a 12 foot single axle trailer with a 3500 lb axle... So if I carry 200 gallons of water at least that is 1600 pounds and my machine and stuff about another 1000 lbs.. What will this do to the MPG on my F150 FX4 ( 5.4 L ) and also will it carry it and will I be able to stop???

John, my PW is not as large as yours, my tank is 20 gallons. A couple of hose reeels, extra PW hose, parts, clamps, chemical, tandem 6 x 12 enclosed trailer and I am at 3500 GVW. Your single axle will not safely carry the weight.

Bite the bullet and get a tandem just to be safe.

Yea thats what I would do. I would sell the single axle trailer and if your looking to save money I would by the double axle used. You'd be amazed how much weight you end up putting on these trailers if you ever get them weighed. I have a double axle trailer that had 3500lb axles and one day I got it weighed with the typical thinks I have in there and the trailer came in at 9500lbs so because of that I had the Axles changed out to 5500lb axles. Carrying to much weight can cause some serious problems if you do it all the time like I use to.

My trailer was $4600.00, on the lot. Then it was upgraded with insulation, interior lights, Rhino lining, heater and propane tanks. yet to be done, back-up camera & LED back-uplights, interior plywood, aux battery.

You should always leave room for more weight or for when you hit a pothole, that can bend an axle, I sure did and had to buy a new axle and a couple tires by the time I had all the work done.

Ask yourself, do you really need that large of a tank? Are you doing large projects where you have to haul water? I did not know that you do that much flatwork.

8.33 pounds per gallon x 200 gallons is 1666 pounds plus the weight of the tank, maybe 150 pounds then the trailer itself (a lot of people forget to add that weight in when doing the math, the axle is rated for 3500 without the weight of the trailer on top of it), then add your hot water skid full of fuel and water, maybe about 1000 pounds then hose reels, hoses, misc. tools, etc.... You might be right at the limit without more than 200 gallons of water. How much does your trailer weigh empty? That is good to know, some of them are from 600 to 1000 pounds empty for that size depending on toprail construction, with/without tongue wrap, size of support beams, etc....

Unless you really need that much water capacity, go with a smaller tank like a 125 gallon tank or just keep what you have if it works for you, no sense in going further into debt for no reason unless you have jobs where you have to haul water.

As for the fuel mileage, what did your trailer weigh before the hot water skid? How much did the old unit weigh? The skid is probably a little heavier so your mileage will go down some, especially if you decide on the larger tank.

If you don't have brakes on that axle, it would be a smart thing to do, that trailer will be a lot heavier with a larger tank full of water and it is going to wear out your truck brakes faster than normal unless you get the trailer brakes and install a brake controller in the truck.

Read my post to John above.

Also, the D.O.T. is cracking down on trailers that are modified or

home-built because so many are falling apart on the highways and causing accidents. Before you build one, I would check with the department that issues titles and see what they require before you start spending money, you might not be able to get it registered without a proper inspection, lights, proper welds, etc.... It is so much easier to just buy a used trailer and be done with it if you can't afford a new trailer.

It would suck if you spent a lot of time and money and can't get it registered, you would hate to drive around without a license plate then get a ticket for it or worse, have it impounded because they deemed it unsafe besides not being street-legal along with not being registered and not having license plates.

I would not take that kind of chance unless you are a professional trailer builder and really know what you are doing.

For 2010 I am planning on a new 14' trailer with the bedliner stuff all over it so I can put 2 Landa hot water skids on there along with the tank, reels, etc.... but I will get the 5200 or 6000 pound axles so I don't bend another axle on these roads we have here.

Also looking at a flatbed truck also to put a hot water skid onto for the small jobs so no need to pull the trailer. That flatbed will also be for the fleets.

I just purchases a 12,000gvw flat trailer that I should be getting next week. I also purchased Diamond plated 1/8 thick plates to screw into the wood to protect the wood and also to give this trailer some Zing in looks. I can't wait to get this trailer up and running but I have to do my daughters room first and that alone will take me at least a month since I have to tear down some walls, move some electric, add exotic molding all thru-out it I am a big moulding guy) and then paint it all including her furniture...and also get to the gym in between(Yea like thats going to happen) but the trailer I am really itching to get it up and running by March when we start going back out to make some money.

As you know John, we are upgrading our filtration unit to exceed all requirements in the 50 states. We are building a new 1,000 gallon filtration separator to help control the sludge and heavy materials ( Grit, sand etc ). This unit, just in materials, no labor, is costing us over $7,000. We are estimating another couple of grand for the welders ( Labor ). The High Quality Aluminum walls is going to be 1/2 inch thick and weighing in at over 550 lbs. This is developed with a cat program so that there will be no bulging of the side walls. Specs to meet DOT requirements. It will take 3 welders a week to build.

Unit will be 4 wide x 5.5 high x 7.25 ft long.
