He never talked about his service, even though he had a scar on the side of his head, from schrapnel. He is buried in the Military Cemetary in Portland. After the ceremony, I was given the flag that covered his coffin. That flag is one of my most treasured possesions. The soldiers that carried his coffin did so with a great deal of respect.
