Landscaper vs powerwasher

Today, I was informed by a condo association that they would like me to submit my bid for a few units. I asked do you have any other competitors involved in this bid. The association manager says yes we have another powerwasher and a landscaper to do the gutters.

This is what gets me what does a landscaper have to do with a pressure washing. I was wondering if the forum can help me put together a few questions to have for the condo association to ask this landscaper. Maybe by showing them the answers to the question and having them ask the landscaper I could get the landscaper to not answer the questions right and wamm they condo association would go for my bid and work.

So much help is needed from my team members on the board on some tough and articulate questions. Also it would be nice if the questions I ask would have some literature to back up the answers.

Also just a little info on the condo.

Dont worry about your competition, sell your company. Tell them "not to put down the landscaper, but this is what you do". That you have the right equipment & chems and you dont use high pressure as many do.

You specialize in building washing, not lawn care and tell them that.

Vinyl condos easy stuff to do, all it is is a big house

Jeff said it all. If you do a good job of decribing what you have to offer, and detail what it is you do, they will realize on their own that the landscaping company is not a qualified proffesional in pressure washing (if this is the case). You need to accompany your sales pitch with some good literature about your cleaning processes, and maye a portfolio of some of your work. If you do these things, you'll stand out like a dimaond compared to the others who don't have the knowledge or skills. At that point, it they still decide to go with the others, maybe becuase the're offering a cheaper bid, so be it. You don't want to work for them anyway.

Go into it thinking, they have a problem and you have the solution. Show them you care and you want to help and show them what you have to offer. Don't worry about your competitor.

It is possible for one company to offer both services without compromising quality. I have been pwing for aprox 7 years now. Last year i bought a lawn care business and have been able to offer customers something they like, dealing with one company for all property maintenance needs. I have people that i have trained to pw and lawn maintenance. I still do majority of pwing and let others do lawn work. It has been a very smart an profitable venture so far. I am working towards having a guy trained for pw so i can concentrate on growing business. The lawn care service i bought came with established customer base and they have come on board for pw services and existing pw customers have become lawn care customers. I was nervous about business slipping when i tried this approach but after a year of evaluation i think it was smart move.

We all bump into landscapers and painters and such from time to time when we bid. It's unfortunate when it is for larger projects. If you have insight here Nicole, I would love to hear it also.

Agreed! Too often the assumption is that the Landscaper is just some hack who is trying to make a few extra bucks doing pressurewashing also. Not always the case! I know at least two very professional PW companies who are also very professional landscaping companies. Same goes for painters. Just because someone is versatile it doesn't mean they're not professional, trained, and experienced!
