0 MMI Enterprises 289 Report post Posted October 26, 2007 ALL THE ABOVE AND SOME..HAHA wood care deck care deck staining exterior wood care But I do think the general public has the word 'sealing' come to mind first when they think of their deck. On their house it surely must just be the word 'painting'. I would like to think the words 'restoration' or 'care' is first to their mind as they include or say so much but I just don't think it is so. If they read it then great but what they gonna stick in a search is the single most important thing to me. If not 'sealing' who knows.... They may just stick in 'deck sanding'. Many just under impression that is what their stuff needs period with no understanding whatsoever of any other useful prep methods...just my thoughts in general on the average person. 0 Tegrey 121 Report post Posted October 26, 2007 "Deck Refinishing". Since 1997. I felt we were not restoring the deck, because we did not replace wood. The carpenter does that. We are specifically " Tegrey Family of Coatings inc."

We are specifically " Tegrey Family of Coatings inc." Yea really ..even though both can mean to return a deck back to the way it was original by way of cleaning and recoating, sealing, or staining it has to be seen that the refinishing word tells customer that you likely don't change out any wood. The word also implies whatever strip or prep that may be needed in order to put finish on is also done or is available.. good stuff Terry!!

0 Neil_Asheville 114 Report post Posted October 27, 2007 "Full service exterior wood care" here. We do houses as well, so need to lump that into the tag as well. I like 'refinishing', though. Good one.
0 Tegrey 121 Report post Posted October 27, 2007 We feel if we use the word restore, it means to bring the wood back, replace it, repair it, rebuild it. We only "strip, clean, refinish it" I know too many customers that if you say you restore it, you better replaces broken or damaged boards. They wil expect it. Thank You. 0 James 625 Report post Posted October 27, 2007 When I do an ad for wood I name the type's of wood I've worked on. This has worked well. People have saved an ad for a couple of years with that in mind.
0 Beth n Rod 1,279 Report post Posted October 28, 2007 Well, to me the most confusion comes from two words: Sealing Staining People don't understand the terms. I like simple things like wood care, deck care, deck restoration....then when you talk finishes get the sealing /staining thing sorted out. Beth
0 MMI Enterprises 289 Report post Posted October 28, 2007 I wonder that the term 'sealing' compared to 'staining' costs us money to the fly by nighter or lowballer...anyone can spray a sealer on a deck and be on ther way in 10 minutes flat.
0 James 625 Report post Posted October 28, 2007 Instead of sealing and staining I tend to use the word preservation or preserve.
0 Greg R 82 Report post Posted November 11, 2007 We used to use the terms "restoration & preservation" and it seemed people were a bit lost on the idea of what we actually did. Believe it or not I get better advertising results keeping it simple.... Deck Cleaning & Sealing The ol' KISS method I guess.
0 plainpainter 217 Report post Posted November 11, 2007 Deck Restoration is listed in my ad - and has netted a bunch of really nice jobs.
0 Deck Guy 14 Report post Posted November 14, 2007 I never use "sealing," because I don't use a sealer. The tag line on my truck says, "Exterior Wood Care Specialists." I have no problem using the word "restore" when talking to a customer, since I restore the finish. They are clear on what willl be accomplished when I'm through. 0 PetersonDecks 14 Report post Posted November 14, 2007 We use Deck Restoration, i think restoration brings credibility to us rather than deck Painters, deck stainers. I wanted to use deck strippers but my wife would not allow it!! John, "Peterson Deck Restoration"
