The Grime Scene Roundtable

Question

Beth is going to kill me for flubbering my mouth off..but..I GOT A BIG MOUTH!!!!!!!!

Just a thought. Who would be interested in doing a roundtable somewhere in Maryland maybe in the early fall when the leaves look there finest.

If I was running this roundtable it would be only open to anyone who has ever participated on the TGS bb..which means probably a thousand plus members since it is just about the best Powerwashing bb on the net.

If lets say 50 people are interested in going to this roundtable maybe a place could be found that could hold this many and if the price was lets say $20/per person then a $30 charge should be taken so $10 goes to Beth/Rod for all there efforts in keeping this bb at the very top of the game.

This could be an annual Roundtable and probably the first of its kind where its an extension and directly related to a bb.

There could be many goals for having a roundtable like this but the first one that comes to my mind is for the TGS members to meet each other and to forge ahead relationships in this industry that could last many years.

No this is not a push for anytype of ORGANIZATION. This is more like a club that we all belong to which is TGS(The grimes scene).

This club is fueled by its internet base and following. Its a club that is built from its internet founding and belief system which is the bb. This is what seperates this club from all else.

This is once again all just thoughts spewing out of my head. These thoughts get me in hot water at times but anyone who knows me knows this..I have no agenda. My one and only goal is for us all to be connected in this industry so we as a group can elevate the standards....This is why I do believe in Organizations and groups...its tough to swim these waters alone.

So who else would be interested and what are some other idea's that can be shared here???????????????

Ken,

Nice looking place. Is the fishing good there?

Carlos, I know there are some boats that go out with awesome results. I am not an avid fisherman. it's more like an occassional thing so I'm not qualified to answer. I'll find out though.

Ken,

Nice digs. For all, Ocean City has some of the nicest beaches in New Jersey. It is also a great town. Atlantic City is no where near the same league as Las Vegas but I guess fun if you are into gaming.

Carlos,

Fishing depends on the time in the fall and the weather. Through Sept. into early October, the summer flounder fishery is still open, and its inshore easy fishing. My personal favorite.

Sept. through Nov. is also tuna season, mostly yellowfin but bigeye around. This is an offshore trip usually 24 - 30 hrs. about 100 miles offshore. Very strong fish using heavy tackle. Great eating.

Bluefish are also around through maybe October. Voracious, hard hitting and fighting fish, 5 - 18 lbs.

The striped bass come in as the water cools, generally best in Nov. and Dec. Awesome first run after hookup, and go from single digits through 40 lbs. or more.

If Ken is willing to host, I vote for Ocean City, NJ. I'd be more than willing to help prep, setup, etc.

We could be looking at 50 to 60 people....you sure you want to offer up your house? We also need to think about things like spaces to hold the meeting, spaces to break into groups to hear various topics discussed, etc...spaces for vendors to set up tables.... think mini convention - bigger than a round table I'm willing to bet.

What hotels are near your home? Hotels offer conference rooms...just throwing out there some things to think about.

I see it's turning into a large get together (awesome) I figure at the very least the key planners could stay at my place and I can call the realtor and get rates for various houses along ours. The fall rates are pretty good if we want to make an entire weekend out of it. There are also many hotels and motels with off season rates. If we go while it is still warm enough (say late September/early October) the boardwalk will still be open. We could also have games, activities and functions on the beach. This is still a "think out loud" option but I think its very doable.

Jason,

Ocean City, NJ is a world away from Elizabeth. Same state but could be half a world away. Now Atlantic City, with the exception of the hotel/casino boardwalk area, have sections that will remind you of Elizabeth.

With possibly 40 or more people attending, may be best to book a local hotel with conference facilities. After the end of Sept., hotel rates at the Jersey shore tend to plummet, and a group could possibly work out a deal with a min. # of rooms.

Transportation from Phila. International Airport is possible by public transit to the 30th St. train station in center city and the N.J. Transit light rail line to Absecon, NJ, just outside of Atlantic City.

Atlantic City also has a regional airport with some commercial carriers providing passenger service.

I'm with you, Jason. I won't stay in some crap hole. I am looking at some rates for places and it looks like one can stay for a couple nights for $150-$200 or maybe $300 for an ocean view nicer place. This would be if everyone booked their own place. I'm sure we can get group rates on a place.

Here are some OC links to check out. I think the weekend of Oct 7th looks interesting.

This is a great article about the origin of Ocean City with some informative links.

I am very interested, and AC is perfect for me. I do however have my annual golf trip planned from 10-22 to 10-29, If it ends up being a week before or after, I am in. It would be great to meet many of you that have helped me as well as learn a few things.

We are leaning towards the weekend of October 27th - 29th for a number of reasons. Please look at your calendars with Oct. 27-29 in mind for this event.

Thanks...

Beth

Those dates are fine but I am wondering why they are the best?

Pretty simple really Ken...farther into the season you go, the better the chance guys will not be working then. The largest round table on record was held that same weekend a few years ago. Wouldn't it be great if we could break that record? They had about 60 attendees... Let's aim for 80!!!

Beth

p.s. not to mention that from a marketing standpoint, we can have lots of fun with things being tied into halloween themes.... a number of folks have mentioned family activites as being important to them...there are lots of reasons really. Heck, this is Rick's big chance to wear his Halloween costume - the BleAch Bandito! Lord knows it's a scary sight!

Aw jeeze Beth, you had to bring that up! Bleech Bandito only comes out when there is mildew present on RS wood that is due for maintenance.

CCA and ACQ takes more water pressure than WRC. In my experience, discount the homeowner and idiots.

Rick,

You better show up with the bandito...this is halloween weekend and a TGS4EVER event we're talking about here.

We can get Steve R. to come in his lab coat, and you guys can duel!

Woohoo! Shurflos at 5 paces!

Beth
