Where Is The Holiday Spirit?

Question

Woman Knocked Unconscious While Shopping. (an AP top story)

ORANGE CITY, Fla. - A mob of shoppers rushing for a sale on DVD players trampled the first woman in line and knocked her unconscious as they scrambled for the shelves at a Wal-Mart Supercenter.

Patricia VanLester had her eye on a $29 DVD player, but when the siren blared at 6 a.m. Friday announcing the start to the post-Thanksgiving sale, the 41-year-old was knocked to the ground by the frenzy of shoppers behind her.

Paramedics called to the store found VanLester unconscious on top of a DVD player, surrounded by shoppers seemingly oblivious to her, said Mark O'Keefe, a spokesman for EVAC Ambulance.

She was flown to Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach, where doctors told the family VanLester had a seizure after she was knocked down and would likely remain hospitalized through the weekend, Ellzey said. Hospital officials said Saturday they did not have any information on her condition.

..."She's all black and blue," (her sister) Ellzey said. "Patty doesn't remember anything. She still can't believe it all happened."

Ellzey said Wal-Mart officials called later Friday to ask about her sister, and the store apologized and offered to put a DVD player on hold for her.

Heck of a sales person ...Trying to make a sale while the woman is in the hospital. Should send her a FREEBIE with a card and flowers!

No more "Festival Shopping" at Wal-Mart stores.

Believe me, I have seen women do all kinds of things when shopping. It makes me nuts, since I'm not a die hard shopper. For example, I hate the "rack encroacher". Rack encroachers pick up and hold an item you want and will walk around with it even if they are not going to buy it. If they think they like it somewhat, they protect it just in case they decide to get it. Many times they discard it in another area of the store. I have also seen the item in question be WAY out of thier size range. C'mon ladies, if you wear a 14, leave my size alone please!

Then you have the one that snag it right out from under you. These are the same people that cut you off for a parking space. You reach for something and their hand goes in and out like the flash and POOF! It's in their cart. It's alot like the person who turned in front of you and took a parking space although your signal was on and you were in position, and had been for several minutes while the prior car was loading and getting ready to move. I hate it when that happens.

X_MAS gift giving should ONLY BE FOR CHILDREN.

I am not a scrooge.

It is just plain stupid to scramble around to buy thing's that the person you give the gift to dos'nt want or is now obligated to display.

christmas is a frame of mind not a marketing ploy.

[yea right]

buy buy buy buy buy buy

if you dont have it and your neibour dose your not good enuff.

If your car is over 4 year's old it's junk.

your hair is oily

your breath stink's

tampon comm. at dinner time.

dandruff make's you a unclean person

dont even start me on FDS.

Watch the nightly new's they try to scare the crap out of you so you stay in your house and consume.

CONSUME CONSUME CONSUME

BUY BUY BUY BUY

Dont take a walk, take your car.

consume, keep up with everyone else, buy buy buy.

When was the last time you took the time to MAKE A X-MAS PRESENT AND NOT JUST BUY ONE?

A $30 VCR?

Why those thing's were outdated 2 year's ago.

First it was record's,then 8 track tapes,cassect tape's,movie disc's,vcr tapes ,then dvd,mp3,

Next year we'll all just go down to the hospitial and get the chip in our head replaced.

Can you imagin the whole world with the same brain power?

Who will do the mondain day to day work?

We can clone droid's?

Seem's the people selling gift's dont even celebrate x-mas.

Do something crazy this year and THANK GOD by showing some love of life and not by what you can buy.

Wal-Mart should have offered right off to pay all her medical expenses and offered her a before hours hour of free shopping.

But the Waltons being the greedy people they are that will not happen.

Beth next time some woman grabs what you are reaching for there is a saying for them, just look her in the eye and say "I can see you really will look good in that size" and walk away.

Just say it LOUD enough so everyone hears it.

Let the other gal stand there beet red and embarrased as hell.

Man also do those things but to a lesser extent.

It all comes down to the "me first" mentality that seems to prevalent in society, especially during this season of "giving". Fighting for parking spaces, fighting for items on sale, being nasty to others in traffic because you're not going as fast as you'd like, etc etc. I hate even going to the store between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

I agree with Ron, I can't stand the commercialization of Christmas. The most satisfaction I've gotten from giving gifts to others is when I took the time to make them myself. This whole BS about being obligated to give gifts to everyone you know, and if you don't spend enough then you don't really care....is just that...BS.

My kids make all my gifts and all my wifes gifts for every holiday. It means a whole lot more to me to have a picture drawn by them and displayed on the fridge than any store bought gift ever would. I agree with Ron all holidays are now a days are for Retail stores to sell sell sell and its a shame that Christmas has turned into that.:D

We only buy for our kids, each other and parents. We don't use credit cards and no one feels slighted Christmas day( we have a budget and never spend over the set amount).

I to hate the commercialism of Christmas.

I hate the ealry bird specials that get people in such a frenzy,I just paid double for a trampoline for the kids, because I refused to try and get 1 of the $98 specials if I had got there at 6am.We managed most of our shopping the day after turkey day,and didn't start until 1pm.The crowds had thinned down,I guess they were all home tending to their ealry bird battle scars.

I thank God everday for the life he has given me,I have 5 wonderful children and a loving wife.We are all healthy, and have a roof over our heads and food on the table.I also thank God everyday for the doors he opens for our business,we just went fulltime last month, and are working steady.I know that we can not do what we do with out God in our lives.

The Smiths and Jones can buy all they want,I'm proud of the things that God has provided us with, they makes us happy and that's good enough.

We started a tradition of having our kids pick out a gift to drop off at Toys for Tots a couple of years ago, they really like knowing that they are helping an under privledged child. It also teaches them the spirit of giving that oneness is talking about.
