Question

I have heard from many people over the years that they vacation in the off season (winter) rather than in the summer due to the nature of our businesses.

I thought it would be fun to see when people go away and where. Are there spots you go and LOVE, that you highly suggest to others? Where are they and what do they offer vacationers?

Cruises are our favorite! Ever since my wife and I went to the PWNA convention in Florida we take a cruise whenever we can. Last year we took our kids with us for the first time and they loved it. It's funny though, after being in the navy on boats, I never thought I would want to go on one again!

We love the traveling, beaches, casinos and just not having to worry about anything. I've got the company set up so that I can log into the system from online and pay bills or just check to see how things are going. Another plus with cruises, my cell phone doesn't work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Which cruise line did you go on? Have you been on more than one? I went on one many years back on NCL, and loved it. We have one planned on Royal Caribbean currently. Can't wait! Tropical desinations are my favorite.

We've been on royal carribean and also celebrity. Our last cruise was on the Galaxy with Celebrity. I did'nt like the boat itself that much though. It had a vibration problem with the engines and it made the main dining room shake and vibrate. (not in a good way) That ship wasn't as stable in the water as others I've been on and it had quite a bit more movement than normal.

What's your favorite thing to do on a cruise? I'd say the casino and also snorkeling. If you haven't done that, give it a try You will love it.

My friend and I like to go snowmobiling every year in january or february. Going back to Jackson Hole, WY in a few weeks and can't wait! This will be the fifth consecutive year, so I guess we have to make it a tradition now. So far my wife and I haven't made any steadfast traditions, but more than likely it will turn into something to do with Disney World <groan, better get a FOURTH job now>. I like tropics and the beach, also. Jamaica is really cool (in a warm way) too and I'll probably get back there sometime mid part of next year.

We take 2 vacations a year (approx 7-9 days for each). The first one is with our 9 year old daughter and the second is just for me and the wife. We were on Carnival Cruise this past August for a Mexico trip....very nice and our little girl loved it.

My wife and I have been to Mexico, Spain, London, Puerto Rico, Vail/Breckenridge Colorado. This year we are thinking about either going back to Colorado or take a trip to Toronto Canada.

Ryan, we are thinking about buying a snowmobile. Can you give me any advice on price for a good Skidoo or Artic Cat. I snowmobiled when I was young and want to take it back up. We own some property in the Lake Tahoe, NV area and would like to take advantage of it. Let me know.

I've been snorkeling, but the rest of the family has not yet. (we are all planning to on this trip) You are right, snorkeling is a blast!

We will also be swimming with the sting rays. :)

The casinos should be fun, but we are also looking forward to hitting the dance floor, as we had very little time to do it this past year, and miss it.

We are already thinking about next year's trip, and we have not even been on this one...yet!

For those who enjoy europe, I can say Italy is wonderful. I spent 6 weeks there as a teen. I spent a week in England, but I think Paul has the real inside scoop there.

Personally, give me a warm, sunny, tropical place, with fun things to do and good food...and I'll be happy. I'm part beach bum at heart. Might have to get my hands on a hobicat....

I couldn't even offer a guess on the cost of one of these machines. In GA, the closest thing we have to that is a jet ski, and they go for average $6k for a cheap one. We just go out there and rent the machines at the lodge. Usually they have brand new sleds and we get to break them in (and we definitely buy insurance on them!!!). I can't even remember now the make of the kind they usually have, but I'm thinking Skidoo sounds familiar. My only complaint is that there is no heat for your feet or legs. They have heaters built into the handles to keep your hands warm (those things can get HOT), but it seems they could vent air over the engine and back out onto the rider. That'd make things much better.

They did enter me into a drawing for a free sled when I made my reservations, though, so if I win, I'll sell it at a good price to ya!

We do a winter vacation, leaving this Jan 10 for the Mayan Riviera, have to see the Mayan Ruins. And we do a summer, usually in the first part of June for a week, going to the Smokies on the Road King.

Disneyland is best in January/February - little crowds or waiting.

Disneyland is also best early in the year, and during the week. Weekends any time of year are horrible.

We don't have any set traditions for our trips...we've spent a week in a cabin in the smokies a couple times, taken two-week trips out to the west coast, gone to the keys, New Hampshire/Vermont, and Arizona. This year we have a two-week driving trip planned in June. We'll leave Florida headed to San Diego, then north to Seattle, then west through Idaho, Montana, and eventually home from there.

That's the nice thing about Florida...things actually slow down a bit in June and July.

Been to the Smokies, Rockies, and Poconos. We have a place in northern MI, on a lake that we get to as much as we can. For me, I can't get away roughly from Memorial Day thru Labor Day, but the wife and kids go during that time.

I get two weeks away for deer hunting, and two weeks in south Florida every year, so I can't complain.

Likely will start combining a little get-away with the PWNA convention, seems like a good way to get a little write off, learn something, and another winter hiatus.

This is very true. The slowest times of the year for me in the past two years have been the mid summer and Dec. 15 - Jan 1st.

Beth, we went on a royal carribean cruise this past spring to the bahamas. We had a blast. They are a great cruise line. The only problem I had was I gained 5 pounds because you eat and eat and eat and eat and eat some more. They have buffets open 24 hours a day, and if thats not enough, you can hit the chocolate buffet at midnight. You can also sit down for nice meals like mauhi mauhi and filet steak. The entertainment on the ship was awesome, the islands were beautiful and we had a blast.

Mike,

If you are gonna be on this end.....then you need to hit Vegas for at least one day :)

Vegas is too crowded. I like Laughlin, and also there's a nice little town right on the NV/CA border on I-15, but the name escapes me at this moment...

Just went and look it up... Primm, NV.

Jean is nice too. In fact, I went to my first casino there in Jean, and walked out with about $500.00

Let me see, last years vacations.

January, Flagstaff for three days. Was supposed to be two, but the transmission on my wifes car went out at 52,000 miles.

June, Scout camp for three days

July, Washington D.C for a week

August, San Diego for a week.

We are starting to get the itch again. If ASU had not been robbed of the Hoiday Bowl by Texas campaigning for a higher BCS ranking, we would have hit San Diego again. So I don't know for sure when the next adventure will be.

All Vacations were done with wife and children, except Scout camp, I only went with one son.

We are off to Tucson for 4 days over Xmas.

We love to tour the grand ol'USA in our RV. We usually take 4 trips a year for about a week each. We love the natural beauty especially the parks in Utah.

I haven't been to all of them in Utah, but Arches is my favorite so far...I could spend a week there and not get bored.
