My vote at this point is for a weekend event that for many will be a combination of vacation weekend and planned event.

If I had the perfect event to attend it would be like this (based on having this in Ocean City):

Friday night: Convention style meeting (at a convention center in town) with speakers and vendor tables. Cocktails and buffet style dinner

Saturday: Group events that could include any of the following..fishing trip, day at the beach with games/events, Casino trip

Saturday Night: Informal gathering at our house which can include cocktails and hors d'euvres (sp)

Sunday morning: Goodbye breakfast (at a restaurant) with raffles.. T-shirts, vendor giveaways, door prizes etc.

I have never attended a round table but I would like the first one I am involved in to be a rewarding, informative and fun filled weekend for everyone that has contributed to both TGS growth as well as my own.

I will supply free lodging for the key planners if it is needed. Christine and I will handle the research of itinerary and event planning.

I hate to barge in on Dr. Fenner but the Beach House is right up my alley. I really hope this comes to frutition. I know I will learn tons from you folks. Please sign up some greaseballs and dress wearing flatwork dudes. Wood is limited on my Island.

Williamsburg, VA is a great place also. Lots to do and see in attractions, great shopping and dining and the accommodations are very reasonable. It's a family oriented place. I recall that was one thing some folks have mentioned to us both online and offline.

Robert, Ocean City has a boardwalk with rides and piers, fishing, super clean beaches, ten minutes from Atlantic City and no alcohol is sold on the island. Very family oriented.

Ken, I personally do not like the beach, I cannot control my wifes spending when she get near the ocean. She is a beach junkie. I am trying to not let her see this thread so she does not know the beach is an option:)

Yeah who needs the beach. It might not be good for a lot of you being that around that time of year you will all be preparing for cold white stuff. Plus if sand gets up in your shorts it could do some horrible damage similar to the wire brushes/wheels you woodies use to scrape off old stain. The relaxed no pressure setting of the beach might be annoying, oh yeah and that nasty salty sea breeze, yucky!!!!

LOL, I can relate to that. The wekend I am proposing also has a huge block sale with 400 vendors of food and merchandise so you might have to have your wallet open.

LOL, you know how it goes, J. Everyone will have their preferences. I personally don't want to be in the center of high hustle and bustle. No matter where we have this thing it is going to cost money. Thats why we work hard all season, right?

My wife is a huge beach junky. I do have a question though. How do you control her spending away from the beach?

As for me, I can take or leave the beach, anywhere but Hawaii. But that is just me. Williamsburg would be my preferred spot, but would be really happy into DC. There is a lot of stuff to do there as well, and plenty of hotels and good air access. If I can swing it, I sure am not driving and a raft is out of the question.

I am trying to remain neutral, since I live so close to Williamburg. Having said that...Williamsburg, for those not familiar, is...

less than an hour from Richmond, which is on I-95.

just around the corner from Jamestown, which celebrates its 400th anniversary in 2007 (remember Pocahontas?)

an hour from Virginia Beach

an hour from my house (lol)

full of outlet stores

less than an hour from Norfolk Int'l (!) airport - SouthWest

less than 30 min from Newport News airport - AirTran

The most important part, to me, about picking a location (and date) is finding one where the most people will be able to attend. (The later in the season, the further south I will want to be.)

Good idea John. Keeping as neutral as I can..Ocean City for those not familiar with it has/is:

• 20 minutes from Atlantic City and the casino will supply a free bus

• An historic town with a shopping district

• Has a very nice boardwalk with several amusement piers and best pizza you have ever tasted. There are hundreds of shops

• Has within 15 miles

- golf

- casinos

- museums

- the Cape May Zoo which is a beautiful, natural habitat exhibit and has free admission

- Six Flags Great Adventure

- fishing excursions

• Very nice meeting/event halls that can hold up to 100 people and 1000 s/f of exhibit space with rooms available

• little over an hour to Philly International airport

• Anyone bringing their rig can park it at our house. We have a driveway and the street is very wide thorughfare and would accomodate a fair amount of trailers.

• The weekend of October 7th there is a huge fair that will feature 400 vendors of food and crafts. (an alternate date since nothing is set in stone if

I understand correctly)

Negatives:

• While it can still be plenty warm in later October, many vendors and amusement piers are closed

• This location favors us in the northeast

Ken, Don't forget a 70 minute leisurely ride on the Cape May/Lewes Ferry is only 30 minutes away. Whale watching is available. AC has new outlet center. And Jerry Blavat may be around at his stomping grounds. Boxing venues at convention center in AC as well.
