Could Use Opinions on Commercial

Scott, do you think it is too long for the web?

Yeah the music I have not purchased for use yet as I was unsure about it. I don't think it connotes or brings to mind porn but if that is your reaction, I definitely want to review that.

The music is not that bad, but it did make me think of it.

I think people on the web are impatient. In my opinion they will not watch all of it. Two minutes is a long time for a commercial. Now if you took what you had and made it an interactive demo, then you would get people to watch all of it. Or maybe a 30 second "lead in" commercial then an optional link to a longer commercial.

I didn't get that feeling from the music, but then I don't watch those movies.....

Maybe some new age or smooth jazz? Something that goes with say....sitting on an ipe deck with a glass of wine at sunset?

Well I have and so and it don't...lol.now if'n it was like 'ride the white pony'.. :)

The timing is perfect and allows just enough time to both read and then view what it is yer showing(unlike some others).

Overall length is perfect too. If I was a potential buyer (am actually) I would not mind even twice as long as I am interested already by time I click on the video.

Realize you had to sacrafice some quality in the youtube conversion but it still views real well.

But if I may, I would prefure to see the order of the 'how to apply/bennefits' changed around. As you have them now the statements/goals of 'rejuvinating tired wood' call buyers into action well but instinctually something tells me I want to see them first before the 'easy to apply/wipe off' instruct/sub-bennefits..

Guys and gals. Thank you for some great input.. and Beth thank you for imbedding the vid. I couldn't get that to work.

Adrian, we are seeking some bricks and mortar retail outlets. I have a few in place and working to expand to all 48 contiguous states.

Ok Ken,

Now I am going to be straight with you on all the points because you dared to ask for an opinion.

The music is kinda what you would expect in an action movie and in the commercial there is no real action, all snapshots with effects to move in and out of them and so on.

Suggestion: use some music that caters to your name "woodzotic"

Something tropical and more festive. The deck is where people have fun and your music needs to set that mood for the prospective buyer which I understand is targeted towards the homeowner.

??? Saw the lady in a blue dress in a web ad and wonder if you have the rights to use it in yours...just a legal question for your consideration.

The shot with the guy in flip flops is not a good one in my opinion just because it shows someone applying it without adequate PPE. This comes from a liability standpoint. Your call.

Overall, you show a very impressive slide show but not everyones deck is that easy to make look that good. Truth in advertising could bite you in the essence of someone looking at those pictures and having an expectation set for the best possible look every time and on every deck. That was my impression.

Puts some of the less desirable decks (not the obviously crappy ones) in there as well to show some other results which help to enforce the point "Results may vary depending upon age, condition, species and previously existing conditions of the wood".

Overall, you are on your way to a nice commercial and I wish you well in your endeavors.

Rod, I definitely want honest thoughts on it.

Lady in blue dress is a stock photo. She was $6.

This is going to blow you away. All of the deck photos except two of mine

and one stock shot at the end were submitted by customers. So the results are very replicable. There are some very talented DIY'ers out there.

The music I am still up in the air on. I wanted to create drama and pace but I see what you are saying. That tune may not be the one. I'll substitute other tracks in there and maybe post a new link or two.

The big question that I have and I am sure you have already done the research on this. Is YouTube becoming a site where people are shopping for products. I go on YouTube for entertainiment (listen to music and etc.).

Is there an agressive customer base following on You Tube?

Google loves Youtube....

With the right keywords in the title and description, youtube videos get great ranking on Google.

Woodzotic googled.... woodzotic - Google Search

on first page is the youtube video above. Just like craigslist, consumers don't actually log onto craigslist looking fo a contractor, but the lisings show up in the google searches for those contractors.

Youtube is a great way to market your service if you use keywords in title and description.

G'day Ken

Mate, those are great looking decks.

But as for the vid.

- lots of great pictures, needed for an emotional response (but not sure what type of music needed, apart from agreeing with others that "that ain't it") and excellent text, gives enough information to get people interested.

- I found all the movement - panning and particularly the fancy transitions - difficult to follow and therefore a waste of time. It's an opportunity for the viewer to switch off. Remember, you are selling timber products and not video skills.

- what product are you selling? have the names and/or packages "WoodZotic" and "Restore-A-Deck" appear more often (even as a watermark) so that the viewer is in no doubt what products they should look for (names, especially out of the ordinary ones, can be difficult to remember). The more you see and hear them the more chance of remembering. Also, same with the contact details - making me wait until the end might be too long.

- "..you can preserve its beauty.." "its" should it be "it's" as the ' shows ownership/belonging, as in the beauty belongs to the deck - the subject/the it.

- ditch the blonde, she won't take it personally, same for the boy with the headset. Would you consider being in the vid yourself? There is a school of thought that it will add credibility."Hi, I'm Ken and I love timber decks. When new they are full of colour and warmth, smooth to walk on, a touch of nature's beauty for the end of a long hard day. But they don't stay new for long enough. The sun and rain will strip the colour and oils from the timber. Soon your deck is grey, moisture soaks in and mould grows, it then splits, splinters and warps, nails start popping out... just not what you paid all that money for. I've been restoring decks professionally for many years and have seen all the problems and tried all the products. But I wanted a product that would protect the timber for longer as well as look great for longer...

- "WoodZotic works well on all timbers" I'd hope it works better than "well"!; you are looking for an emotional response to kick-start the purchase action, so be brave and use something like "great", "looks great", "looks fantastic", "protects and beautifies all"...

- some of your text has capitals and full stops, but most doesn't. Either is fine but needs to be consistent.

... Geez, he's a picky so and so... sorry, it's teacher in me... "and if it's not done by Monday you will be picking up rubbish at lunch time!"

The "it's" being 'it is' or ownership versus whatever "its" is properly used for gets me every chance and so does get's. What am I missing?..something about actions/verbs?..oh yea English. I flunked that pretty good.:banghead:

Got to hand it to you Aussies..you all know yer proper English. :)

I appreciate the input very much. So far the one general consensus is the music is not cutting it. One thing about he pans and transitions is that the Youtube version makes them jumpy. I have some good information to make edits. In the interim, John, see if this page will load for you WoodZotic hardwood deck stain and seal for ipe and exotic wood I threw the video up there in streaming format. It loads in about ten seconds for me and is much smoother. I wonder if that will make any difference in impression.

I don't mind the music at all, but I'm not a big fan of sound on websites either. I think it follows the pace fine, more of a personal pref I guess.

I think it lools really good, and seeing it on your site obviously puts it in much better context then the Youtube video.

I'd maybe change show piece to showplace, and cap the if in the beginning.

All in all I think it's a great addition to your site.
