Jesus had a child??

Question

Ah oh...Sunday nite there going to show these tombs of Jesus, Mary Magedon(His supposed wife), There child along with Joseph and Mother Mary. Oh boy this is going to spark off some serious debates. James Cameron(Titanic) is either very brave like Mel Gibson was with his reiligious flick...or he's very stupid. Fanatics kill over there beliefs. I bet whether he's right or wrong James Cameron will probably wish he never did get involved in this never ending religions belief systems that are in place.

Should be an interesting fall out from this show...which I probably won't watch because thats the night for "Desperate Housewives"...

I thought The Da Vince Code was a novel! Or is it just some way the liberals are sneaking their anti-christian values into our society??? Hmmmm...?

Why feel insulted by fiction? The Grimm brothers stuff gave me nightmares as a kid, but I don't get P.O.'d about it. It's like the muslims in regard to Salmon Rushdie. I said the same thing then...get over it, it's a novel!

Man...I really am trying to break my addiction to jumping in on this type thread...

Hi, my name's Larry, and I'm a political/religion thread-a-holic...

Back to sitting on my hands now.

Back to sitting on my hands now.

Careful Larry , looks like you're falling off the wagon.

I don't want to have to do an intervention, like I did with Britney Spears, you see how that helped her. You'll be walking around with a shaved head, tattoos and be going to gay bars. Thats right you're liberal leaning anyways you're already going to hell. Only republicans go to heaven. So go for it you got nothing to lose

Britneys the Anti Christ LOL

would you agree that all on the left arent anti christian, just wondering

I guess you're a republican HUH

Just to start something. So now the republican are right on terror and christ and all of us left wing democrats are for terrorist and against christ

Did you know that there are a lot of republicans that arent very good christians too - like ...........................................................GEORGE BUSH & **** CHENNEY THE ANTI CHRIST TWINS :lildevil: LOL I crack myself up Yours Truly,

Jeff the left wing, nut, liberal, socialist, anti christ, terrorist loving, taxaholic, tree hugging, pervert KING of MYRTLE BEACH

Have a nice day Jon:lgbounces

Yes I am a republican. Used to not be. I absolutely do not believe that all on the left are anti christian, nor do they love terrorists. Just like all right wing evangelicals do not bomb abortion clinics.

I believe that there are many wackos on both ends of the political spectrum. I do believe that a big majority of the press is left wing and has an agenda and it is against Christianity.

I am very tired of hearing that the republican party is beholden to the evangelicals. Evangelical Christians firmly believe that the Bible is the inerrant, inspired Word Of God. We hold firmly to the beliefs that are taught in the bible and we have a right to vote for those that agree with us, just as the non Christians have a right to vote for thier canditates. The base of the Republican party is conservitave Christian. The reson the republicans lost is that they have left thier base. The country didnt vote for the dems they voted against a republican party who has left thier core beliefs.

Joe Lieberman is as left wing as they come, He is a practicing Jew, He is firmly behind the war on terror. The press has demonized him as much as they demonize the Christian right who believe the same things. He was voted in as an independent and because he stayed with his core beliefs, which are liberal. the democratic primary voters are left wing and voted against him because of his stance with GW on the war on terror. The rest of the voters stood behind him.

Jeff I believe that your beliefs are firm, but they are firmly wrong. What reasons you have for your beliefs are your own business, and I do not have any problems with you. I respect you and what youve done in business. I just believe you dont see the truth as I see it. and I do not hold it against you. we'll see where you stand in 20 years.

It's talking about the people who are responsible for the content of the bible we read today and the interpretations interred.

Rod!~

Rod, IMHO that statement is the key.

I am a Right Wing Independent that was raised in the Catholic faith. But am also a Free Thinker that will not be spoon fed what I should believe. I do not blindly trust what I have been taught. Often power corrupts and always will.

In my opinion Science and Philosophy have always been the enemy of faith. Anyone who had the audacity to disagree with the early Churches views on the world were labeled "Heretic" - tortured and put to death in the name of Christianity. (this sounds like modern radical Islam)

Even in this modern day of enlightenment; if Science dares to ask if we were perhaps led astray by corrupt church leaders in the ancient past it is met with extreme resistance and anger. Why is that?

To seek knowledge is not an evil conspiracy. Is everything else that the ancient people said and believed taken in the same literal context? I do not know the answers but will always remain open minded and in search of more light.

Maybe we'll meet and talk someday Jon and I'm absolutly sure we actually will have some of the same beliefs. I am left but there are many things i have feeling both way ( Flip flopper NO, just I try to look at everything in different light)

As for Joe Leiberman, the republicans help put him in . They voted for him just so a democrat wouldnt take his seat, not because he was their choice or that they truly liked him I feel you should vote your beliefs, not gamemenship. I think many of the republicans who voted for him were basically selling themselves out for a wrong reason I basically think they lied in a way. I never really liked Leiberman and thats from many years ago. As for being for the war on terror, I think we all are for the war on terror, he voted for Bushes war in Iraq, not terror. I feel Iraq was a distraction and a war that was thought out before 9/11. I just feel its to bad that it took Bush almost 4 years to figure out that they didnt have enough troops, it seems like Bush is always late in his thinking, we now are sending more troops, he is now talking to N Korea, he just recently said he would talk to Iran & Syria, Gee why didnt he do this 3 1/2 years ago. He screws up at least the past 3 1/2 years and now he changes and no one holds him accountable? If I screwed up for 3 1/2 years I'd be gone

Jon I learn a lot from everybody and I learn a lot from you, Thanks, this is all just a place to talk and to respect many if not all on this board for their veiws. Please dont take a lot of my post to serious, I'm just having some fun. I really dont think Bush & Chenney are the Anti Christ, Chenney definitly is the Anti Christ, Bush is just a follower LOL LOL

You know I really dont think most of the media is really anti christian , I just think its alll theater, just as Fox News is

Have a great one

The apostle Paul told his followers to check out what he said against other writings, not just to take every word for gospel, (pun intended)

The preachers that tell you to believe what they say and expect you to not look anything up are wrong. so are the political leaders. The Bible as it is written today has undergone some changes. But which changes are good and correct. the ones that take out references to gender, and change the word man (the original greek that was written translated that word to mankind,) so that now man is men or women. like the Son of man and woman?

the bible was translated into english by falable people. there was politics going on even then. But the King James version still stands the test of time as the most accurate traslation. Why not read several versions. why not study greek and hebrew , or at least get a bible that has the original Greek and Hebrew side by side with translations for you to read. that way the preachers cant snow you with thier inferred translations.

My pastor says the KJV is the only translation that is accurate. We know this because Jesus' words are in red.

Lieberman has always gotten a large percentage of the republican vote. Hes very popular there. The dem that ran against him was extremely left wing and deserved to lose.

Remember the base votes in primaries not the majority of voters. thats why the liberal dems run as liberals then move to the center for the general election. the republicans run as conservitaves during the primaries and then move toward the center too.

Ned lamont proved the base of the party is far left. But the majority of the party is not far left and put Leberman back in office.

Whether or not this applies.....it is a powerful message. I got it in an email today.

DARRELL SCOTT TESTIMONY

Guess our national leaders didn't expect this, hmm? On Thursday, Darrell Scott, the father of Rachel Scott, a victim of the Columbine High School shootings in Littleton, Colorado, was invited to address the House Judiciary Committee's subcommittee. What he said to our national leaders during this special session of Congress was painfully truthful. They were not prepared for what he was to say, nor was it received well. It needs to be heard by every parent, every teacher, every politician, every sociologist, every psychologist, and every so-called expert!

These courageous words spoken by Darrell Scott are powerful, penetrating, and deeply personal. There is no doubt that God sent this man as a voice crying in the wilderness. The following is a portion of the transcript:

'Since the dawn of creation there has been both good & evil in the hearts of men and women. We all contain the seeds of kindness or the seeds of violence. The death of my wonderful daughter, Rachel Joy Scott, and the deaths of that heroic teacher, and the other eleven children who died must not be in vain. Their blood cries out for answers.

'The first recorded act of violence was when Cain slew his brother Abel out in the field. The villain was not the club he used. Neither was it the NCA, the National Club Association. The true killer was Cain, and the reason for the murder could only be found in Cain's heart.

'In the days that followed the Columbine tragedy, I was amazed at how quickly fingers began to be pointed at groups such as the NRA. I am not a member of the NRA. I am not a hunter. I do not even own a gun. I am not here to represent or defend the NRA - because I don't believe that they are responsible for my daughter's death. Therefore I do not believe that they need to be defended. If I believed they had anything to do with Rachel's murder I would be their strongest opponent

I am here today to declare that Columbine was not just a tragedy-it was a spiritual event that should be forcing us to look at where the real blame lies!

Much of the blame lies here in this room. Much of the blame lies behind the pointing fingers of the accusers themselves. 'I wrote a poem just four nights ago that expresses my feelings best. This was written way before I knew I would be speaking here today:

Your laws ignore our deepest needs,

Your words are empty air.

You've stripped away our heritage,

You've outlawed simple prayer.

Now gunshots fill our classrooms,

And precious children die.

You seek for answers everywhere,

And ask the question 'Why?'

You regulate restrictive laws,

Through legislative creed.

And yet you fail to understand,

That God is what we need!

'Men and women are three-part beings. We all consist of body, mind, and spirit When we refuse to acknowledge a third part of our make-up, we create a void that allows evil, prejudice, and hatred to rush in and reek havoc. Spiritual presences were present within our educational systems for most of our nation's history. Many of our major colleges began as theological seminaries. This is a historical fact. What has happened to us as a nation? We have refused to honor God, and in so doing, we open the doors to hatred and violence And when something as terrible as Columbine's tragedy occurs -- politicians immediately look for a scapegoat such as the NRA. They immediately seek to pass more restrictive laws that contribute to erode away our personal and private liberties. We do not need more restrictive laws. 'Eric and Dylan would not have been stopped by metal detectors. No amount of gun laws can stop someone who spends months planning this type of massacre. The real villain lies within our own hearts.

'As my son Craig lay under that table in the school library and saw his two friends murdered before his very eyes-He did not hesitate to pray in school. I defy any law or politician to deny him that right! I challenge every young person in America , and around the world, to realize that on April 20,

1999, at Columbine High School prayer was brought back to our schools. Do not let the many prayers offered by those students be in vain. Dare to move into the new millennium with a sacred disregard for legislation that violates your God-given right to communicate with Him. To those of you who would point your finger at the NRA - I give to you a sincere challenge. Dare to examine your own heart before casting the first stone!

My daughter's death will not be in vain! The young people of this country will not allow that to happen!'

My pastor says the KJV is the only translation that is accurate. We know this because Jesus' words are in red.

Your pastor does not know his biblical history. The words of Jesus were put in Red by the Oxford publishing company. They are the company that prints more bibles than any other.

Next, there were 5 or 6 different KJV translations of the bible. Which one is the most accurate? They are not all the same. Incidentally, the translations were originally commissioned in 1604 and the Scholars of the day started translating and finsished it in 1611. They had other translations, but the last one was done in 1769.

Just because someone puts some words in red does not make them true. It is the actual content and meaning of the words that will let you know what is true.

This might be pretty sad for some, but you all know I'm not very religious, Who wrote the bible? I'm catholic, so is "my" bible the same as others bibles

I just wasnt brought up very religious

I'm not sure it's even that complex. Life without a safety net can be pretty scary. And, to face the concept that you just die and rot like garbage can be pretty depressing. As you might expect, people get a little testy when you try and take that away.

As for the earlier posts regarding the truth: The truth stands up to scrutiny. Anytime you are encouraged to avoid material that questions the "truth", the first question must ask should be "why?".

Hi, my name's Larry, and I'm a political/religion thread-a-holic...

Back to sitting on my hands now.

Yes, it was a novel, but a novel based on very real, and to many, very important people. I simply feel it would be insulting to God for me, as His child, as one who claims to love Him, to go see a movie or read a book that essentially says that scripture is wrong, and that Jesus was not who He claimed to be. That's all. If others enjoy the movie, great! I'm sure I'd enjoy it, aside from the things I've already mentioned...I simply choose not to take enjoyment in what I feel God finds offensive! I'm not angry at the writers, the producers, or the readers/viewers. I've simply made a choice.

Not all liberals are anti Christian, and not all conservatives are pro Christian.

I simply feel it would be insulting to God [...] to go see a movie or read a book that essentially says that scripture is wrong

If God is so insulted, then why did he permit it to be produced. Why did he give you eyes, ears, a brain, the internet, TV, radio, books, etc.

Do not confuse faith and following blindly. They are two very different animals. Faith is walking into a furnace despite KNOWING that it will incinerate you. Was Christ insulted when the disciples questioned his ressurection? No. He understood and invited them to TEST his claims by feeling the wounds.

Quite frankly it's pretty arrogant of man to presume that the Almighty God is concerned (much less is insulted) with what one man wrote, or another man reads.

But that is the whole point of the system. It's puts us into a dependency on higher powers to save our self indulgent, self important and ignorant lives. The truth is: we are all going to die! Most do not want to face that fact and go on believing they are somehow immune or immortal. Instead, they should be acting with conviction that what they do in life should be with purpose instead of pissing it away with the false hope that someone is going to save them which is the ultimate misconception.

As for the earlier posts regarding the truth: The truth stands up to scrutiny. Anytime you are encouraged to avoid material that questions the "truth", the first question must ask should be "why?".

Exactly, because if it could stand the test of scrutiny it would be then be accepted as the truth without the need to be defended.

When I was going to church as a young man, they would read everything in Latin from the bible. My friends brother was becoming a priest with the catholic church at the time and I asked him why they didn't read it so all could understand it, after all, it is god's words, aren't they? His reply was in the teachings he received was that from earlier times, the common people were unworthy to hear the actual words and it was the priests job to interpret them for the people. Also, the bible was written in Latin and most of the people spoke other languages, so the priests had to translate it to them.

At that point, I stopped going. I finally got ahold of an english version and read it. I know the bible was written by man. Handed down through the ages, copied, interpreted, and even altered. From what I can tell, about 30% of it is factual but convoluted with much influence of the writers. To this day I have more questions than answers as a result and no one to give me a straight one. All I get is their interpretations. If the bible is not the same for all as we are all gods children, then logic stands to reason that he played favorites and I wasn't one of them. Fortunately, I have my soul to talk to and it gives me knowledge. Not questions, not arguments, not doubt, but the right way to live.

I agree that safety net is what allows us to function everyday without the absolute fear of death.

I would never want to take away someones faith; BUT I do not want to be denied access to information that may contradict that faith either. All religions seem to have the same goal in mind - just different ways of reaching that goal.

I find the research and speculation very interesting and without a preset dogma it is also non threatening to me. This is a good discussion. Usually threads like this do not stay civil for to long.

Just to prove I dont believe all pastors know what their talking about or that they have a lock on what God wants:

In largo the city manager just announced that he was going to undergo a *** change operation. At a council meeting to discuss his future, a local pastor said. "What would Jesus Do? Jesus would fire him. mark my words."

I think that pastor is a whacko. and I believe he is a conservative.

Well, Phillip, I think it is pretty clear from past discussions that you and I are never going to agree where religion is concerned...

If you wish to think me arrogant, that's fine. I think God is very concerned with the things His creation does. Like I said, this is my choice, I've explained my reasons. I'm not upset that you or anyone else disagrees with me....

I don't think that something as creative and omnipotent as god ever had the technology stuff in mind when creating humans. God gave us at birth all we needed to navigate this realm. It is now up to us to develop the part between our ears that alters perception and revealing the promised land which is another realm where what we know here does not apply. Higher consciousness and a different state of mind form the basis for our conception and navigation of it. Intent, will and heart will be our vehicles. I am confident technology would not exist there. The way we conduct ourselves there will have to be so much different than how we do here in order to maintain that level. (for lack of a better word)

Ever heard the saying "places without names that don't yet...exist" or " it is far easier for a camel to walk through the eye of a needle than a man with any possession".

The saying "let go" is key. This is as far as I have gotten and am still waiting for that cubic centimeter to come into view long enough to grasp it.

:banghead: No offense Rod, but it hurts my head to read your posts sometimes bro.

When are people going to figure out that it's not about US. It's about God and HIS glory. We weren't created to float around and reach another level of consciousness, we were created to worship HIM and please HIM. He thought of EVERYTHING when he created us, he is all knowing. There are no surprises with God. Matter of fact in HIS word he says as a part of fulfilling prophesy that knowledge will increase dramatically, that's one way to know that HIS coming is near.

We all need to read the Bible more and stop making things up as we go along....
